Red triangles with EXCLAMATION MARKS on it. How to remove th

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 4:17 am

I saw these exclamation points in red triangles all over the place. Even in one of my quests wherein I need to lock pick, all I can see is this big exclamation point again and then it rotates as I try to pick the lock. Whenever I twist it to the end, the game crashes and exits to the desktop.

Here's my pc specs.

Playing this game is such a breeze, no lags whatsoever. Just the exclamation points. Is this caused by the lack of updates? For sure my pc can handle this game.

If it's like Oblivion, the game draws those when it can't find whatever actual resource the thing being drawn refers to. Have Steam run a check on your game files, they're probably broken somehow.

How can I get Steam to run a check in my files?

Right click on Skyrim, Properties, Local Files, Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

When you say right click on skyrim, as in right click inside the skyrim's folder? Sorry, kinda new to this kind of deed.

Nope, right click in the steam library, on the games name in the list.

verifying the integrity of game cache will most likely fix this, because those exclamation marks are caused by missing textures/meshes or something, as far as i know.

In Oblivion we had many Options to click on that to see just what was missing. the moders even change it to a ":WTF:Im a Missing Mesh!" Triangle....lol

I find it pretty odd a install could be so hosed to start with.

I'd also suspect something very wrong with the file system on the hard disk in question, if the Steam recheck
fails somehow.

Could be some bad sectors acting up.

Missing textures or items.

Verify file integrity via the Steam menu on that game. It's a habit of mine to always do that after every install just for grins. It only takes a few moments.

Right click game title in Library list, hit properties, local files tab, click Verify integrity of game cache and let 'er rip.

Sorry but no you should definitely try the integrity check and just let it run, and update corruption as it finds it. If you're on a slow connection then sorry but that is definitely the game leting you know something is hosed.

Good catch ;)

The alternative is buying the game.
If you have bought the game, verify the cache with Steam, which is super easy and will fix this. If you can't verify with Steam because you're using a pirated game, then we cannot, and will not, help you.
