Redguard, Nord or Orc?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:57 am

I am new at Skyrim and I want to start as a melee warrior. When I studied all the races, these three remained. What I want to know is: Which one do you prefer as a melee warrior (one-handed dual wield) and why?

Orc. hands down. Double damage and take half from berserk is just superior.

But Nords can send them enemies packing, in case you just bit too much that you can't even close your mouth

Just for a few minutes, but still quite useful

Most if not all racial advantages can be earned within the first few levels, thus making racial choice based on benefits a void idea.
However if you are truly going with this old ideal, go with an orc or redguard. Orcs have berserker rage, a spell very useful for one-handed users.
Redguards have a resistance to poison, which when dungeon trenching, can come to be useful in encounters with spiders or chaurus.

orcs special is amazing, the nord one also will make enemies flee allowing you to recover when trolls and bandits overwhelm you

haven't played redguards but i think their special is fatigue regen kinda useless

Really its all a matter of apperances though, the skill bonuses don't matter after four levels and you'll forget to use the specials

Redguard for me, just because their lore and pantheon are so interesting. For example, another MK snippet:

"Is Tall Papa Magnus? - nope
Tall Papa as Magnus?
Syrsly?
Think raga. Then think of the various ways the Sun would affect the Weather/Eyeball/BodyClock/Agriculture/TheShineOfASingleDewdropBeforeAnImportantDuel.
Just how many gods would you have to govern acknowledge those? "

Agree, Ork are 'the' fighters.

However it doesnt really matter in the end. I chose Khajiit cause they look cool and had no issues (they look awesome in heavy armour). You end up getting all kinds of abilities that are pretty cool during the game so its more of: "What will I choose to kill # monster" rather then "what do I need to kill # monster".

Don't worry about racials, pick what you like. Honestly, racials don't matter all that much in a game where you can change the difficulty in the middle of the fight and pause to drink unlimited potions. Choose based on looks and RP.

But, if you were really looking to min/max, I would choose Orc for the ability or go with Breton and eat mages for breakfast.

Technically the Redguards ARE the best "Warriors". But I've always liked the Nord race ever since Oblivion. They just have that, tall and hardy rugged look to them. And hell.. it's Skyrim there homeland.

But I'd say Redguard if anything if you want the best.

If you're asking in regards to actual benefits (racial powers) it doesn't matter enough to pick one over the other, unless you're truly looking to be mathematically optimal as far as combat performance. Even then I'd question the significance.

Personally I prefer the way Orcs look; I have a couple and Berserk is quite nice, but I chose them mainly for visual appeal. Though I will admit I'd say Berserk is clearly more useful in combat than the Nord or Redguard powers, in my opinion.
