reMarkarth: Just had my Creepiest, Weirdiest gaming Session

So I go into an inn in White Run and some guiy invites me to a drinking contest. Despite beinb a petite, murderous elf archeress, my toon says "Sure! I can drin you under the table."

Next think I know she walks up after blacking out and finds her self in the Temple of Dibella in Markarth (shere she'd never been before). Within minutes she sees a murder on the streets. After a night at the inn she witness a Vigilanet of Stendarr asking about an Abandoned house and when he explains the house is suspected of harboring demonworshipers and he needs to go in there, I naturally agree to do so.

Next think I know, I find myself in a clearly haunted house and cannot get back out. I wind up having to kill someone to reveal the path to get out and even that turns out to be more involvement with a Daedra that most folks would prefer when they set about to help a cleric of Stendarr clear out bad guys . . .

That is when everything starts to get whacky. I go to see the guy who has possible info on the murder the night before, and he wants me to get more info, so I start asking around. Pretty soon during my investigation, a paid thug comes to whump my butt but instead I beat him! He tells me who paid him to rough me up (a man of power in the community) so I go to confront him.

Lets just say-> after a long conversation, he and his followers decide to get aggressive and consequently he and his followers wind up dead. I figure it is time to go straight to the Jarl to let him know he's got a traitor who has been coopreating with the enemy outside the gates. But unfortunatley about 8 or 10 guards ran us out of town.

I tried sneaking back in, and did manage to kill 4 or 5 of them by sniping them outside the walls, but once inside the town they are too hard to see. Debating whether to leave that toon as DID or reload before her 'assault' on Markarth. I was just so amazed by having this happen that I had to just see what would happen if I TRIED to get back into Markarth.

There was one part where we wound up fighting some essential guyg Thangor or something and kept him down on his knee for the whole time but it wouldn't die!

Is this supposed to happen like this!?

You started out doing the "A Night to Remember" quest. Then started the "Abandoned House" quest, then went to the mission for Markarth.

You aren't supposed to fight Thangor. He's essential for a reason.
Only thing I didnt understand was why they gave you a bounty for killing the people who assaulted you. If it's the part I'm thinking of with the guy "N" then the fight is supposed to happen. How you ended up fighting what's-his-name is beyond me. Did Thongar attack you first or did he just pull out a weapon? If it was the latter that is supposed to happen.

Don't attack Thongar.

The essential guy, is it Thonar Silver-Blood in the Treasury House, of his brother Thongvor who hangs out in the keep we're talking about? Thonar is part of the quest (you have to get evidence on him too) and Thongvor isn't.

While you're talking to Thonar, some servants of his household attack and kill his wife, and they also become hostile towards everyone else (they usually kill the girl behind the counter as well, a good opportunity to get yourself a set of tavern clothes if you want to). After the fight, Tongar tells you what you want to know (but is really mad, which, of course is understandably since his wife just got killed).

You mean the guards attacked you in the middle of this, or before this? THAT is not supposed to happen.

When you go back to the shrine of Talos the second to meet Eltrys with the evidence, the guards will arrest you when you are inside the temple. Then you should just accept the arrest, since that will lead you into the next quest.
