Remember when we bragged about how good this game would be o

Hey Cortana please explain how do you seem to be the only one without problems. Can you post pics or videos?

Actually, game runs perfect for me...just didn't meet my expectations appearance wise..also the UI takes some getting used to (but is otherwise broken...unless you use a controller)

On a positive note - we don't need Steam to be running at all once the game has been installed!

At least, not if you run the game using the "TESV.exe" file instead of the Launcher. Methinks that is a big positive. :)

Read the FAQ... Steam has to be running.

You can run it in "Offline Mode" but Steam has to be running.

What do you expect from these companies barring two gems in the rough... DRM and badly done console ports.

As usual only the people who complain show up on the boards. If that is reason to cancel your preorder or not pick up the game, you're better off getting something that fits your mindset. Game runs perfect here. The only thing that irks me are the shadows. And the UI, but we knew that would be a console stripped down version. Nothing a mod won't fix. At least the game looks and runs great, I can worry about the clumsy menu and UI later.

Argh, you can't use the mouse to navigate the menus? :S Reminds me of the horror that was the Saints Row 2 port (they treated the mouse like an 8-direction anolog stick for selecting items, making selecting items a pain as you had to do a pixel-perfect movement, and it was keyboard-only to navigate all menus).

Also... the screens from all settings maxed show some fairly poor textures. I seem to remember the statement being that "You couldn't make the game look any worse than it is on the Xbox" - ie - xbox=low settings. However, it would appear you can't make them look THAT much better, either (other than the resolution :P)

I also have no problems. Flawless performance, and I even boosted shadows and stuff.

Why not just make the damn game good enough to where it doesn't need modders?
I have never played a game that I did not want a mod kit to be release for. Everyone have there own taste, which a mods can tweak a game to match. And massive amounts of free content is awesome as well.

Course I'm complaining... And hopefully my complaining will save someone from wasting 59.99 til "modders" do what Bethesda should have done in the first place.

If you own an XBox360 or PS3... By all means go buy this game, it's worth it.

If you own a PC... In all honesty don't waste your money, you're paying for an inferior product.

Which is really freakin' sad considering what a PC can do compared to the consoles... Yet we get the crappier, err crappiest of the 3. Usually that reserved for the PS3. Not this time.

And while I tend to exaggerate... Take what I say serious here. The menu/interface/graphical options/controls/keybinds/navigation/mouse movements, basically anything mouse related as well, are one of the most poorly done "porting" jobs for a game this "big" that I've seen.

It rivals Borderlands in ineptitude....

Umm... no. I'm running it without Steam via the "TESV.exe" file. :P

Turn off the "Xbox 360 controller" option to use the mouse. It's on by default. I don't even own the damn game and I can tell you that.

"Do I need Steam to run Skyrim on PC?
Yes. Skyrim is strictly tied to Steam for both physical retail DVD discs and online digital-only purchases. To play Skyrim, you launch the Steam client and then launch Skyrim from the Steam library, leaving the Steam client running in the background. Directly launching the Skyrim executable found in the Steam folder will also launch the Steam client, as Steam is hooked into the Skyrim executable."

"Can I just run Skyrim without Steam running in the background?
No. The Steam client must be running to play Skyrim, and discussion on circumventing Steam by running Skyrim by any other means will not be allowed within these forums."

Dude... It's running. Or you pirated it, which if it is the case, you're prolly the smartest one on this forum for saving 59.99 for a badly done PC port.

Just try it yourself with your copy - the game runs fine without Steam running (offline or otherwise) if you use the "TESV.exe" file instead of the Launcher. The Launcher forces Steam to run but the TESV.exe file doesn't. :)

And no I'm not a pirate - never pirated a game in my life. And I'm almost 40. I bought it from JB Hi-Fi this morning. :P

Obviously I have no clue since I'm not sitting at your computer... But it runs, I have tried it for myself. So... I don't know what to tell you, maybe you have the icon hidden, but I'm willing to bet if you check your task manager Steam is in fact running.

What's really sad is I'm sitting here debating this instead of playing the game... That's how poorly done this port is. Sigh...

Rather forum browse than play a game I just bought... GG Beth, hope Microsoft making you bank.

Couldn't agree more.

It's actually hard to belive how much controlls and interface is fu***d up - the game is literally unplayable to me.

It's possible that this is correct since some of their other games could be run using the .exe instead of the launcher and avoid the DRM they had (IIRC Fallout 3 worked this way !)

Does the pc version have a full reflection option, similar to Oblivion's and Fallout 3, all the screen I have seen don't have reflections.

Tested it, he is right. Only the launcher requires steam to be running.

Oh, and i can use mouse in all the UI elemnts without problems. Clicking, mouse wheel, rotating, all work normally. It's an old Logitech MX518.

I don't have the game yet. Is the above the primary reason people aren't able to "click" (use a mouse)?

If so, omg !!!

No, the primary reason is [censored] console port.

Also, you can't just click on something - you need to scroll down:

No you don't. Don't take for granted that your problem is everyone's problem. And if you own the game, and you have that issue, at least try what the guy's saying instead of insta-bashing with ZOMG CONSOLE PORT!!1!11 because you know what? We all knew it was a port a long time ago so that's old news.

First things first, it is a fact that only people with problems will post their problems. Otherwise they wouldn't post! The amount of people you see with issues is standard for any game at any time, especially on the first day. The vast majority of players most likely have no problems.

Secondly, why are so many people saying "mods will fix this"? The issues some people are facing are obviously bugs, and they will be patched as soon as possible, especially if they are as serious as some people claim.

And thirdly, this thread is pointless and does not belong in this section of the forums. I am not trying to be "forum police", but having a thread like this in the issues forum will only serve to draw attention away from people who are experiencing issues with their game.

I am in no way trivializing anyone's problems, or calling people "complainers", because these are all legitimate complaints. Just know that the majority of people are not experiencing problems, otherwise the game would not have been released. Almost every major game is like this on release, and the number of people with problems is increased because the game is so big and there are so many people playing it.

Also, Cortana has posted pictures of his game already in another thread, and he is not having any problems. I can vouch for him.

well the US hasn't unlocked yet, so who knows how many of that population will be having issues, but what Da Bomb said if your not having issues your most likely playing the game.
