[REQ] Remove Player Marker From Map

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 12:04 pm

In my effort to accomplish the following:
1. Make the game realistic.
2. Force myself to use the gameworld rather than a UI to guide me.

I want to do the following:
1. Have locations removed from the compass.
2. Remove enemies from the compass.
3. Remove the player from the map (But keep locations on the map, because that's how maps work).

#1 can be accomplished with: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=391
#2 can be accomplished with: http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=285

However I have not seen anything that will accomplish #3. I just checked all the UI mods in skyrim nexus and have not found this.

Is there any easy way to do this or would it require a rework of the map?

The paper map doesn't have all the locations on it. I 'only' want to remove the player location.

I'm pretty sure it can be done. Maybe you could PM one of the modders for the mods you linked and ask if they'll take a crack at it?

Extract the file for the little player arrow, and replace it with a completely transparent one? Then you would still be on the map, and when it zooms out it would still be centered on you, but there would be no arrow...

All three of these plus no quest markers and quest directions added in would be a dream!

Personally I find my map too cluttered - it would be awesome to have a mod which hides any location marked as "cleared" to avoid information overload.

I felt the same about the map, so I made a mod that makes all map icons and the HUD elements much smaller and less intrusive/cluttering.

On the subject of removing player from map...try this one:

Put the file into X:\...Skyrim\Data\Interface and let me know if it worked, since I'm reinstalling Skyrim right now and can't test myself.

^ I just tested it and it works, awesome thank you!! I have been wanting this for a long time. Although, it still says 'Current Location' when I mouse-over my position. Do you think you could remove that too? :)

For #1 and #2, you just had to make one change in the prefs.ini instead of using mods. Just change this line

bShowCompass=1

and put it to 0. No compass = no markers of all kind, no ennemies, etc.

For #3, you could just not use the map?

Hello,

Wherever you are, if you're still interested, I just found this: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=912. I'm going to try it.

And it does have the feature the OP is asking for. And many more. :)
