Removing Dawnguard

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 11:01 am

Does anyone know of a way to disable/delete Dawnguard without Skyrim crashing on load? I don't care for it and would like to see it gone from my game. Thanks.

Edit: I tried deleting and reinstalling Skyrim, but the DLC was included in the reinstall.

I have never seen someone with 5 stars...

And uh, most people delete dawnguard with no problem. But I think they're only loading files that didn't initiate any content. So I dont know about your situation.

PC? XBOX?

On the PC I just uncheck the box on the Data Files. Sure it's still there I guess, but it isn't hurting anything. Once I get a character that I want to be a vamp hunter and I am ready to run straight through the DG MQ and nothing else, I may turn it back on just for that one character.

lol well the OP said they didn't enjoy the game. And other people typically remove it so the vampire attacks don't plague them at lower levels when they have no equipment.

PC. I just found that if I also uncheck a small mod I made to drop some gear in the Helgen cave, it doesn't crash. Going to have to look into this a bit more.

Thanks all. :)

Go to a non-Dawnguard cell in the game, save, launch Skyrim, click Data Files, uncheck Dawnguard, launch the game, load your save bypassing the warning and then resave your game in a new slot just in case.

I missed out on your post. I deleted my esp, created a new one with Dawnguard unchecked (same goods), and now it's working fine.

I always feel amusing to see a member that is in the forums since 2000 (you know what i mean)

Glad you got it worked out. Trying to figure out things like this that involve more PC knowledge than I currently have can frustrate me pretty quickly! Mods can sometimes do strange things to random areas in the game so that's why I try not to install a crazy amount of them even though it's hard not to Lol

If you don't mind me asking, why don't you want Dawnguard?

It's a little too over dramatic for my taste. I was never a fan of vampires and were creatures in the TES games, but I thought I'd give this a try.

Besides, I'd been getting free games from gamesas for 4 years. The $20 didn't hurt much.

\/ \/ Edit: And also what Hannah Montana said . All of Bethesda's other DLC's are easily avoided if you don't want to trigger them. Dawnguard isn't.

It's really easy to understand.
I mean you start a new game and next thing you know a character you liked gets killed by them hound dogs before you get to her.

Needless to say I was in Windhelm, 1 vampire attacked the city, nobody died.
But then I walk outside across the bridge the person who sells horses died instantly to the hound dogs and now I can't buy any horses there anymore.
I'm only level 13 so you can see the problem, this DLC is really for more seasoned characters who completed loads of quests and bought all the horses already.
