Render Unto Caesar Bug

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 4:39 am

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but it has effectively ended my Fallout: New Vegas game (87 hours logged) since I don't have any previous saves to reload (I saved after arriving at the Legion fort).

When I left the Tops casino after accepting the Yes Man "Wild Card Quests" I was approached by a legion rep and started the "Render Unto Caesar" quest. I went to Cottonwood Cove wher I was taken by barge from Cottonwood Cove to the Legion Fort. I was transported, but Rex was left behind in Cottonwood Cove. Lily was able to transport with me, however. Anyways, once at the fort, the game prevents you from leaving the fort until you speak with Caesar. The problem is that you can't speak with Caesar unless you tell your companions to "Wait". I can't tell Rex to "Wait" because he is stuck at Cottonwood Cove. So I cannot talk to Caesar or leave the fort, trapping me in this area of the game.

Now, I know that sometimes your companions will warp to your location when you go through a heavy loading area. So I've tried hunting around for a key so as to access the back building behind Caesar's tent where a major portion of the plot will eventually take me, however I haven't had any luck getting in. It would seem that this is a Catch 22, where I am unable to get out.

****Note to Bethesda**** The SOLUTION to this glitch: Make the characters automatically wait outside without requiring the player to manually instruct them to wait when going to speak with Caesar. That way if a companion is left behind in Cottonwood Cove, players are not stuck in the fort.

(Edited the original post to make it more clear.)

And if you happen to know of a way out of this, please respond.

I have a similar problem, just that ED-E simply disappeared. Adding a command via the Pip-Boy to send all companions to their original places could maybe fix this. In my case maybe it wont help much because I cant find ED-E even with the vault 22 elevator travel.

Back to you, I believe there is a door separating the cells where the merchant and Caesar's tent are. Doesn't that brings Rex back? Can you see his name in the map?

Rex shows up on my map at Cottonwood Cove and does not transport to my location when moving from the exterior Legion Fort area to the interior area. If he did, I wouldn't be having this problem. Do you happen to know if any of the Legion characters have a key to the Bunker on them? I imagine the game wouldn't let me short cut an entire Caesar's Legion quest line just like that though. This is incredibly frustrating.
