I was wondering the same thing.

Perhaps repair skill determines the amount of benefit you get from each item used, but I don't know.

well on the wikia it says the repairs are more effective with higher levels and you learn more ammo press recipes ... but it seems like these skill points would be in better use somewhere else

Repair slows down the rate that things degrade it also is used to make ammo and repair kits but ya when they made it work this way they realy needed to add more into it.

Can't use those kits on armor, but they are a godsend when using things like the .308 sniper rifle early on, or the plasma caster. Also, having 70 is nice for the "Hand Reloader" perk.

I do know that an item may be fully repaired but not at its max power. In fallout 3 i had assualt rifles I used and then rapaired some times it should attack power at 50 or 60 but after a while of use, repair and so on it had around 100 or so attack power. Not completly sure its the same in new vegas.

you fully repair the item, the repair just "supposedly" last longer the higher your repair skill is - but the power is full

That's even better - I occasionally find the repair kits for sale for like $20, but not often in stock.

I don't remember seeing repair kit on workbench menu though

Repair is the most valuable skill the the game ... with the perk [Jury Rigged]. Now this perk is grate for 2 reaons. 1) lets keep your weapons Tip Top with most any crap (not everything). But by far .. it make MEGA CAPs. Say you are out wandering around and u stumble on a busted up old Brush Gun. its in very poor condition, 200 caps as is. However you have seen them sell at the stores for 5000 caps. Whats that, you have Jury Rigged, Yes Jurry Rigged. You take A varment rifle worth 200caps @ 100% .. you fix that Brush gun too 100% .. and Now you A 5000cap gun you can sell for 2500+

I only want it 90 so I can use similar gun to fix weapon which are hard to come other then that it is waste of points but seriously that perk is very handy perk to get. You would not only make even more money but be able to use good guns more often because you can use similar guns to repair them.

I'm seeing the same sorts of responses ... "it was useful in fallout 3" "I want jury rigging"

but i am having a hard time justifying pumping skill points into this.

It all depends

like people have said it allows you to get Jury Rigger, but it's not essential. You can repair a weapon to 100% with a repair skill of 1, it will just take a long time and a lot of 'spares' to do

I would go up to at-least 70 with the repair skill.

because...?

If it's for the hand loader most of the recipes are learned by level 50 - and you can use a skill book to use the others

LOL DEAD RISING JURY RIGGING

Anyways, I've said it before in another thread, but there are powerful Hand Load rounds to get with a high repair skill and Hand Load perk. Got some spare .308 rounds? Upgrade them to .308 JSP for x1.50 DAM!

No, no, no. You learn the REGULAR ammo on 50 Repair. If you have the Hand Load perk (which requires 70 Repair), you can make enhanced versions of the .308, .357, .45-70, 10mm, and .50 MG. You can basically take your regular ammo, break them down, and upgrade it.

High repair also allows you to short-cut many quests. One example is the food machine in Camp McClarran. If you have 85 repair, you just repair the thing on the spot instead of wasting time finding pilot lights, fire-hose nozzles and chewing gum...

ah, thanks for the clarification. What about jury rigging, considering other people can repair your items to 100%?

I haven't really gotten there yet (hunting for skill books before I get it to save on skill points) but I heard Jury Rigging with allow you to repair a weapon with anything within its category (unarmed, guns. energy weapons, melee).
