Repairing the Phial Quest Glitch (may have already been ment

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 5:38 pm

I understand this is january, which was when you guys said you'd be doing code fixes (i think? lol) which can pretty much be read as quest fixes so that's why I waited till now to mention this.

To begin, the quest "The White Phial" works fine. You get the quest, you go get the phial for Nurelion, he tells you you're an idiot and Quintus pays you. Done. Great. Good.
The courier who finds you a little later to tell you that Quintus wishes to see you also works fine.

Now here's the trouble.
The quest "Repairing the Phial" tasks you with retrieving three ingredients with which Quintus can repair the phial you've acquired. One of which is a Forsworn Briar Heart.

Now as it stands, if you have no Briar Hearts in your inventory whatsoever and you go and complete this quest, you're good to go. Everything works fine. But if you do have one, then the game will not count it and you won't get a quest notification saying you've acquired one.
Folks like me probably said to themselves "Oh, ok then. Maybe it's a specific heart. Something special" and you go and kill the Forsworn that the quest marker directs you to. You kill him and take his heart, but still no notification.
The mammoth tusk powder and the unmelting snow are recognized by the game when you acquire them and you're given the notification saying as such but none for the heart, which makes it impossible for this quest to be completed (as Quintus' dialogue options never change past telling you about each ingredient).

Now there are some "fixes" for this that the community has already discovered but they're more like preventative actions than actual fixes. lol
First off, when Quintus actually gives you the quest, if you drop the Briar heart you already have (BEFORE KILLING THE FORSWORN AND CLAIMING HIS) and then pick it back up, the game recognizes it and gives you the notification saying so. From that point you can complete the quest at your leisure.
PC users have just used the console commands to make the game recognize the heart. Console users don't have that luxury unfortunately. lol

Other XBox users have tried going through the Chidne Mine quests and upon having their things returned to them, the briar heart was then recognized by the game. Upon searching the forums however, it's clear that this "fix" does not work for everyone though it's worth a try. Simply going to a jail and then breaking out also appears to have the same 50/50 chance of having the heart recognized by the game upon retrieving your items.

The results of this glitch can be found here: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Repairing_the_PhialJust scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see the "Bugs" list. lol
Hopes this helps you guys fix this :)

I just recieved a letter from a courier that started this quest before i was done for the night. thanks for the heads up. I know I definitely have a Briar heart on me from storming a Forsworn camp for the previous quest. I'll drop it on the floor right before I talk to the guy. then pick it up again lol.
