Request: Better functionality for Favorites menu

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 9:55 pm

The favorites menu gets rather cluttered, especially as a mage or a versatile character. Mine has manny different spells, 2 weapons, a shield, my bow, and dragon shouts. It gets very cluttered where it's not even that much more convenient anymore.

I propose two things:

First, kind of like the guy in the PC board said about having little small pictures next to things on the list, this would help find things quicker.

Also, having the favorites menu in sections, where you can scroll left and right between weapons, armor, spells, and shouts - this would make it much less cluttered and much better. These two together, would be amazing.

Please hear me out and let me know if this is possible, as currently my favorites menu is pretty difficult to navigate and I'm sure others have this problem. But navigating all the way through the magic screen takes just as long, but it's a bit easier to find things. So in the end, sometimes they both take the same amount of time.

Other than that, great game! :D
Get back to me plzzzzzzz.

I agree. I was thinking this today.

I was thinking I wish magic had a "M:"in front, potions had a "P:" in front, so at least I'd know where in the menu i need to go

I prefer an idea proposed a few days ago by another user. Each d-pad direction accesses a different favorite menu.

Now THAT is a pretty darn good idea. Either would work for me honestly, but that one seems to be more versatile. I also still think the little pictures wouldn't be a bad idea.

The question is though, will they add it? Only 3 replies or so here about it. God I hope they do, it'd make the combat more fun and faster.

I second that motion! the only parts of the dpad that do anything are up and down, and they both take you to the same thing. either let you say what goes on which direction, or have set directions for certain things (armor up, spells right, weapons down, consumables left)

They might add it up down the road. I don't know if you played Morrowind or not but the journal system for the original game was horrid and difficult to navigate after you've played for awhile. Bethesda patched it up and made it easier to search through your journal to figure out where you needed to go.

Left and right actually DO do something, but they're not very known about and not nearly as practical. I didn't even know down did anything honestly.

Left and right is for like hotkeying spell sets (for left and right hand) I think, but it's odd and I see what they were doing to try and consider mages here, but I think this idea is much better and much more useful tbh.

And I don't think it should just be left armor, right weapons, up spells or anything like that. I think you should be able to set whatever you want to each direction. That way people could sort it like that if they wanted to, but then there's also people who would have a whole setup in one direction, such as for switching to stealth, they could go to one menu (say left, for example) and equip armor, weapons, and even spells and shouts here too. Then they're melee armor and weapons and shouts could be on the right. This would be amazing. Please patch this in.

Um.... this still isn't in my game yet O:<

It's a feature that's obviously better so I don't really understand why they don't choose to do it. It trumps their system by far.

Just adding my agreement to the idea of organizing it the way the menu is, or to the D-pad idea.

I would of liked to see all 4 d-pads used to select between 4 catagories, you really only need to skip forward through a list, no need for a back button, and with less items in each d-pad menu because there sorted out, it would be much faster to scroll through.

Old school final fantasy submenus- weapons, magic, items, special skills.
Yes. Sorely needed.
Not only do I have spells/shouts in mine, I also have potions. It's getting to be a hot mess....
Not crazy about the idea of assigning different categories to different directions- remember the d-pad hotkeys for oblivion on 360? Too fiddly to use in the middle of a battle.

True, but the game now pauses when the favorites menu is brought up and you can navigate it with the control stick. Some sort of structure needs to be added to both the chests/draws/ect. and favorites menus

I agree with subsections/menus of Weapons/Armor/Potions/Magic. Alternatively, I would welcome an order by type instead of alphabetically, and some information, especially about potions. Lastly, I would wish to expand the hotkeys to not just one item, but one complete loadout, meaning: one item for each item slot (left hand, right hand, arms, head, body, feet, neck, ring) being equipped when pressing one hotkey direction. You could change from your Mage equipment to your Berzerker equipment in one press of a button.

Also, to the people that care to know (this is buried in the manual, too):

D-Pad left and right ARE Hotkeys which you can assign by:

Opening the Favorites list by pressing up or down on the D-Pad;

Choose any item in the list you wish to hotkey, then press and hold left or right on the D-Pad until a number appears next to the item (left is "1.", right is "2.").

You can then quickly equip that item by pressing left or right on the D-Pad in-game without pausing.

Additionally, and I can only speak for bows here:

Say you are currently toting two spells, one in each hand, or a shield and some spell; you have a bow hot-keyed on the right D-Pad. You press it once, you equip the bow. You press right again, and you will go right back to the equipment you had before in both hands (the two spells, or the spell and the shield).
If you hotkey a single-hand weapon like a sword, for example, pressing the hotkey direction twice will first equip it, then unequip it, leaving you with an empty hand.

And finally, there are two threads where you can make further suggestions about simple, doable gameplay improvements and adjustments (like this):

What be cool is armor set hot key, example im stealthing it up in my shrouded armor, boots, gloves, sneaking rings and amulet and I run into a boss that I want to have all my magicka gear on for, it'd be nice if i could just select one of many preset armor setups to switch out my stuff, I know sounds like Im lazy I just hate pausing combat for 1 to 2 mins to change out my gear, at the very least it be nice if I could organize my favorites in the order I like

That's basically what I meant with "Loadout" Hotkeys. And it's not lazy, in my opinion. For example, if the referencing of another game will be indulged by the venerated community, Two Worlds II offered three distinct Loadouts you could instantly switch through with the D-Pad, including Armor, Gear, Weapons, Apparel. You could snipe with your bow from stealth, then, while the enemy is running towards you, change to your mage and summon some backup, then change to your Conan to To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women! All without pausing the game even once.

It may not be too realistic, but it's about as realistic as "Stop! Armor Change Time."

Also, just a question, but I was under the impression you could only wear one ring at a time?
