Required update for Creation Kit (Loading Dawnguard.esm)

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 2:03 am

I've heard from the Steam forums, The Creation Kit needs an update to load Dawnguard.esm. Anyone know when that update could possibly be released?

Add Dawnguard.bsa to your SkyrimEditor.ini's [Archive] sResourceArchiveList2 and it'll pop, evidently...

If I do not do this, and I do not load the Dawn Guard esm, will I be able to make mods that will work for people that do not have Dawn Guard yet?

Or as long as I do not use any resources from Dawn Guard I do not need to worry about it right? Just like with Shivering isles and Oblivion?

All should work normally if DG isn't loaded, yeah. If you want to fork code around its presence/absence, you can use *http://www.creationkit.com/GetFormFromFile_-_Game#Examples. No master dependency is necessary.

*Turns out the example will work as there is an 0x00000800 form in Dawnguard, DLC1AurielsBow "Auriel's Bow" [WEAP:02000800]

ummm... you lost me here.

All I want to know is once I get DawnGarud (will get it this week end I think) and install it to play, how do I continue to mod my mods so that player's without Dawn Guard do not need Dawn Guard to use the mods I am working on in the CK while DG is installed on my PC.

With Oblivion and SI all I had to do was Not use any of the resource from SI, and all my mods were usable by those that did not install SI. Is this the same for Skyrim and DG?

Just don't activate Dawnguard.ESM in the CK and it'll noit be added as a master to anything. Having the BSA in your INI won't cause a dependency or anything.

Do not have the Dawnguard esm checked in the CK, when you are creating other mods.

EDIT : Ah! Ninj'd by the JO... :ninja:

You can load Dawnguard.esm if you want, but don't include anything in your mod that comes from a folder/sub-folder named DLC01.

Hopefully all the newly added stuff is clearly marked so you don't accidentally drag stuff in from those folders?

Well, surelly you can check dawnguard in the CK and not use it, but why would you do that? You can even open more than one instance of the CK if you feel the need. The best way to be safe is opening your mod only with the files you want it to be dependant of.

One possible scenario is if you want to esmify your esp and re-use at a later date with a mod that uses content from the Dawngaurd.esm

Do not LOAD dawnguard AND your mod and make edits and then save your mod. If you do, that will cause DG to be a dependency. The dependency can be removed, but it's best just not to load dawnguard and your mod in the CK at the same time.
