SAN MATEO, Calif. — Jan. 19, 2012 — Capcom?, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, is very proud to announce that Resident Evil? 6 is in full development and scheduled for release on the Xbox 360 ? video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation?3 computer entertainment system on November 20, 2012 with a Windows PC version to follow. Blending action and survival horror, this latest instalment in the multi-million selling franchise is the most ambitious, immersive and feature rich title of the series to date and promises to be the dramatic horror experience of the year.

It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.

In a first for the franchise, Resident Evil 6 sees series favorites Leon and Chris come together to face this unprecedented threat. They will be joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective and involvement, in this relentless dramatic horror experience enacted on a global scale.

Looks pretty good. Still very action oriented, but the setting(s) look a heck of a lot more interesting than Resident Evil 5.

Side note: Resident Evil: Revelations demo is also available on the Nintendo eShop.

So...a cover mechanic, explosions, kung fu, and death-defying jumps? Awesome, Resident Evil is turning into every other generic action game.

I'm glad to see that they're bringing back Leon; he was a great and really likable character. If they can integrate the atmosphere of the 4th, the horror of the first few, and make the controls less crippled, then it'll probably be great. However, it doesn't look like it from the trailer :(.

RE4 stands as one of the best action games ever made. RE5 was a huge downgrade. I really hope RE6 can live up to 4, although I certainly can't see it beating it in the atmosphere department. In RE4 you felt isolated - in this you appear to be in the middle of a war zone.

I've never played Resident Evil, but I would love to. I've got no idea about any history/story progression in the game though so I don't know how to jump in the series. I love the Silent Hill series, and I expect Resident Evil to be a similiar type of game?

Yep, and when you reached the only moment where you received some outside company...well, anybody who played the game knows what I'm talking about .

But it also had one of the worst PC ports ever made.

Still a great game though. You have to mod it to hell and back on PC to make it enjoyable though.

I dare say the Wii version is actually the best.

I dunno what sort of content the Wii got, but the PS2 version trumped the original GC version. The graphics weren't quite as nice, but it had the extra costumes and the "Separate Ways" side-story, which easily added 5+ hours to the game and was really well done.

hmmmm... based on what i saw in this trailer i would say that it seems we will be playing several characters through out the story line, rather than having multiple story lines.

then again, i acknowledge its a terrible idea to read into trailers.

Multiple playable characters whose stories intersect at some point.

I hope they do a more interesting villain this time instead of the commical Spanish midget in the pantaloons and the Neo wannabe. And it does just look like a third person military shooter but with zombies, but yay... zombies! I was sick of those La Plaga infected locals of the previous two games. They were no substitute for zombies.

I tried to play the one Resident Evil for the Xbox 360 where the first boss is like a guy with a giant axe but I really couldn't. I hate the way the game works with a passion. It's not fluid it all, it's go and stop go and stop go and stop some more. You have to pause to shoot, you have to pause to do everything. I know a ton of people like it, my little brother played through it like 15 times, but I just couldn't stand it.

If they made it more action-y like Dead Island, maybe I'd play it, but for now I'll get my zombie fix from Left 4 Dead and Dead Island.

true, i borrowed resident evil 5 from a friend. stoped about 1/4 of the way through and never picked it up again. the other day i said to my friend "oh, by the way, do you want resident evil 5 back?" he then told me he had let me borrow it in hopes i would forget and never return it like i usually do.

You compare Albert Wesker to a guy like Neo...? That's a major insult to Wesker, who's way cooler than Neo will ever be ~_~.

For people who can't wait until the end of the year, Operation Raccoon City is out in a couple of months. That looks good. Zombies again. Zombies good.

Not that similar, really. As far as survival horror goes, RE leans more on the survival than the horror, and vice versa for SH. Progression is more linear and action-based. The first few games have a similar "floating camera" view to them (and clunky controls that seem traditional for the survival horror genre), but the series made a major gameplay shift with 4. 5 tried to copy it, but is widely considered as failing. There are also many non-numbered side games in the series that are a completely different genre, such as rail-shooters.

As far as the story, they do follow each other, but not very closely, and the plot in general tends to be weird and prone to shark-jumping. So, if you're not able to start from the first one, I wouldn't worry TOO much about the story.

I believe it featured all the extra content from the different versions. Separate Ways, Ada's Report, The Mercenaries, Assignment Ada and new costumes.

Plus I found that the Wii controls just worked really well. There wasn't a crazy amount of waggling the stick around, and aiming worked well. You could also use a gamecube controller if you wanted to.

I'll get you a quick up to par go over.
RE0: You're playing as Rebecca Chambers a member of a SWAT like team who's teamed up with a military felon, events take place before Resident Evil.
Resident Evil: You play as a five person group but you can only have 3 people in a party in a RPG fasion, you're on a mission to explore the house of a young artest who went mad when she-oh wait a minute that's Sweet Home. You play as Jill or Chris who's a member of a SWAT like group, sent to investigate your missing comrades that leads you to a mansion where Bio-weapons where tested.
RE2: You play as either Clair or Leon and you're trying to get out of Raccoon City due to the T-virus outbreak from the 1st game.
RE3: You're playing as Jill who's also trying to escape Raccoon City.
RE: Code Veronica: You play as Clair and Chris who meet up with a stange person who has an unhealthy love for his sister whose also one of the main figure heads of Umbrella.
RE4: You play as Leon who works with the US government now whose sent out to rescue the president's daughter from a creepy spanish town.
RE5: You play as Chris and Sheva whose investigating some Umbrella like attacks in Africa.
Not the best discriptions of the games but it's quick.

I think it looks awesome. I was disappointed with 5, and in fact never finished it. But this looks really good. I'm very happy that they're bringing the zombies back, and as much as I love the survival horror of the first few games I love that this one drops you right smack in the middle of the zombie outbreak.
