Restless Draugr suddenly appears

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:19 am

As my topic title suggests a (wild) restless draugr suddenly appears out of nowhere if i fast travel to any location (remote locations and even within cities). Is this possibly related to any of the recent updates? Suddenly respawning enemies? I don't usually fast travel so he could be there since early patches when they fixed ash piles etc.

Someone else mentioned this issue a little while ago. Might want to post in the support forum.

Can we move our own threads or does a moderator need to move it?

I do not know the answer and I haven't seen this myself, but this forum seem appropriate place to post. Do you have any mods?

It sounds like it's still this issue they're working on. I haven't had it happen again lately though. See post #31. :tes:

Hmmm interesting. It's been a month since then so I am not sure if they would appreciate my save game. I do have vanilla skyrim, with no mods, no ini tweaks etc.

Something similar happened to me in Windhelm. I fast travelled there, and was met with about 10 Draugr, both Restless and normal ones. They killed the Captain and the Blacksmith before I got them. :ermm:
It's a bit annoying for NPC to die like that.

It was quite funny. I paralysed poisoned (Serpent stone power) it and it proceeded to fly erratically until the paralysing effect wore off. Bit disconcerting thinking about it actually

It happened when I took a carriage to Winterhold. Pretty exciting for a while. :tes:

I had this problem too. I sent my save game to Beth at the beginning of the month. Personally, this bug was immersion-breaking for me. I don't toss that term around lightly but I just couldn't deal with having necromancers, bandits, and wolves congregating outside of Whiterun stables. In my hours of testing and attempting to fix this, the mobs were only hostile once (and they went non-hostile mid battle, walking back to their places in front of the stable), the rest of the time they just stand there. It's too weird for me.

I haven't even tried to use carriages or fast travel since I realized this was not going away- which is not a huge deal since I never fast travel anyway. I do miss my carriage rides though. :(

Kicenna are you saying you haven't had it happen lately even with using fast travel/carriage?

That's right. I had fun with it for a while by fast traveling a little because you can loot. After the first day or so, only a Bandit Thug would appear with me and he was never hostile...kind of polite, in fact. When they asked for my save, I sent it in. I had another episode with Draugrs strolling along the road but they weren't hostile either. I like finding strange things (the AI) in the world and it doesn't bother me. It hasn't happened since I first got patch 1.4 now though. Gstaff is asking for anyone playing vanilla to let him know if it happens too. I only have a crafting satchels mod and the space core mod in use. They're working on it so that's all that matters. I don't fast travel much anyway. It's a better experience if we don't. :tes:

Edit: I can still load up that old save though and it'll happen again. That makes me think it was something in a script that hadn't settled down yet after the patch. I believe it takes a little time for things to work through the game.

Another question. Should I fast travel to allow them to appear to "clear" up any mobs waiting for me? Or wait for a final resolution?

This is why I don't update my game until Game of the Year Edition. I'm still on V1.0 and normally, when the GOTY edition comes, all major bugs and ones created in patches are fixed.

As for this bug, sounds like fun if you ask me! Fast Travel to Whiterun and have a random Draugr Death Overlord, Dragon Priest, or another high level enemy spawn next to you.

"Some may call this junk ...."

Sounds like more of a feature than a bug to me! I love the random AI encounters. The more surprising and strange, the better. Maybe it's a zombie attack easter-egg. :D

well its not as strange as how in my game when im playing as my altmer sorceror i occaisionally am surprise attacked by the same scraggly haired bearded bandit that for some reason uses zombie taunts and he manages to scare the bajessus out of me every time. il give you an example one time i was strolling through the forests near falkreath admiring the scenary and then probably only two inches behind me i hear "MUST.......KILL!!" naturally i jump and after the brief shock wears off i turn my character around to see some bandit that looks like charles manson in studded armor wielding an axe. after a few lightning bolts i kill him pretty effortlessly but gods it was creepy.

Be careful though and be ready to reload. They can kill the NPCs and anything else. I didn't fight them; I only watched and I followed chickens running away. I'd never seen chickens being chicken before. Then I'd reload or keep it if everything was ok. :tes:

I assume you aren't going to get your save game back, "cleared" of the issue. I think Beth's just using our examples to research why this happened. If you don't want random draugrs showing up in every location, stick to foot travel for the time being.

Kicenna, that's interesting. I haven't had time to play in the last week, but I'll be testing this when I play tonight. Maybe it's resolved itself in my game too.

Lol i didnt mean they are going to "clean" my saved file. I meant that maybe if you fast travel and the enemy appears then the potential for it to appear will go away. Unless other enemies start spawing which sounds quite likely judging by other people's experiences

Hehe, sorry. To answer your actual question, I have no idea. Though it sounds like Kicenna just let the bug play out and no longer has the issue. Just depends on your tolerance for having random mobs standing around (or fighting) in towns.
