Retexture Dragon Skeleton

Open each link in a new tab and cycle between the two.

So I wanted to try and make the the Dragons Skeleton less of a blur or less pixelated in the game. Let me know what you think. I didn't do the entire image yet. What I need to know is, the image I started on is a 2048 image. The default image is 1024. In the game the Dragons skeleton looks really low res. as does most of the game by default. Look close to see what was changed and tell me if you think I should continue or am I wasting my time.

Dragon Bones brushed 2048

*I have a few filters I would add to it to give it that dirty texture. So disregard the "clean or cartoon look".
*Also note that only a couple of fingers and a bone fragment has been done. Look close to see what was changed.
*My goal is not to change the default image, but just increase resolution.

So...you're trying to make them...lower resolution basically?

Look close to see what was changed and tell me if you think I should continue or am I wasting my time.

I'm not going to say you're wasting your time - that's not my place, nor anyone else's place for that matter. If you want to do it and that's how you want them to look, that's great. If you make something, whether it be a texture, a model, a quest, no doubt some people will use it, some won't. Some will like it, some will even thank you for it... others will ignore it and there are those who will abuse you and your efforts in a very rude and unnecessary manner.

You will be wise to remember "You can't please everyone all the time but you can please yourself" :)

Personally I think most of the vanilla textures are just fine as they are, some are bafflingly low detail (weapons in 1st person for example - something I am already working on ;)) The picture you show does not need to be twice the resolution of the original though - apply the same filters to the standard size and see how that looks. It may be tempting to just double the size but be careful doing so - it uses twice the texture memory to no good purpose for the most part and it is possible to get better detail and still keep texture size down.

As for your results here, looking at a texture shows nothing useful - only in-game screens will show the effect of the changes in any meaningful light. :)

I really appreciate that response. Thank you. I will go back down to the 1024 and try it out, take better screenshots. I am having dragon skeletons pop up a lot in my game, and yesterday I noticed how blocky it looks from about 10 feet away. Since every dragon carries Dragon bones and other various goodies after death, I figure it is looked at enough to make a change. The default texture on these Dragon's look good already, so there really isn't much to improve upon. However, it is also a skin I wish to see what it looks like in game with a brush and some filters and some other touches it could look just as dirty and less clean like the original, but less pixelated.

I will finish this and see how it looks, and share it if I am happy with it. If other like it then they like it, if not I will make sure I am happy with it - since that is technically all that matters. :) Thank you.

Are you on SkyrimNexus? I would love to see those weapons after your finish.
