Returned for refund

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 11:43 pm

Having played Skyrim on PS3 for three solid weeks I have decided to return the game to Amazon for a full refund with a reason of "Poor quality".

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the game and had great entertainment with it since release day there was always the doubt that the further I progressed the more serious the lag would become and that if it eventually reached an unplayable state and my 30 day return window was exceeded then I would have a useless game on my hands collecting dust.

After reaching level 36 and with the patches installed there was some improvement in performance initially but eventually the framerate would suffer slightly and although playable was sufficiently annoying to try a character deletion and total reinstall to see if starting from scratch would benefit the experience. I don't think it did, and even with a level 2 character I noticed a slight skipping with objects in the 'peripheral vision' (the rocks as I ran) and then in a dungeon there was a noticeable sluggish feeling to the architecture, very slight but annoyingly there. Texture pop-up I hadn't noticed on release day was also evident and not a good sign from a fresh re-boot.

Skyrim is a great game, immense fun and looks terrific but the stories that pour in of reaching unplayable lag have persuaded me to 'jump ship' and get my cash back.

I hope one day, in the not too distant future, I can read topics here that are full of the joys of how PS3 Skyrim is a healed beast and a joy to play from zero to 300 hours and then I can re-purchase it at a reduced rate or as a Platinum title, but right now, as a thrifty consumer, I would prefer money back in my wallet.

No hard feelings to Bethesda. I've had fun...........for free.

With the amount of people up in arms clamouring for a refund and not getting any joy in the matter from 'high street' stores it just goes to show you, with Bethesda's poor track record for PS3 games, it always pays to order from Amazon. No quibble, no fuss, 30 day money back guarantee.

No sweat. No stress. No problem.

I am quite envious of your decision to order from Amazon. I get the joys occasion of calling my local Gamestop today in attempt to get a refund citing faulty or defective product. Which, they will most likely be hesitant. If things get too heavy I'll bring up section 75 as a bluff.

I traded mine in yesterday, IF I end up buying a 360 then I'll pick up a used copy.

I have however kept my save files just incase they do manage to patch/fix the game in which case I will buy a used PS3 copy.

svcks that is the only way to get your money back. Though I get why Bethesda isn't offering a refund just yet, but I feel they should offer it if they can't get everything sorted out after a certain ammount of time (maybe within 2 months time at most).

This year was a bust for me game-wise :( The two games I have been anticipating all year turned out to be the worst all year in some ways.

Saints Row 3 had just let me down big time, finished everything in 4 days with 94% trophies completed and ended up trading that back in less than a week after purchase.. and I had been waiting on Skyrim until the first couple patches rolled out but after reading up on things some more i'm not sure i'll ever dare to buy it at this point (my only option is on PS3 btw).

Sad vault boy is :sadvaultboy: sad.

Make this right Bethesda or atleast do the right thing by offering the people who have bought it for this system some sort of refund initiative, available at all stores that you allowed to sell your product. That won't fix the game but atleast it will restore the companies integraty.

If there isn't an official word on whether this will ever be fixed by the end of the week, it looks like I'll be returning this to Amazon as defective. Of course, I will just buy the 360 version, which means Bethesda will still get my money. But hopefully as the returned games flow in, big retailers or Sony will realize they have a real bone to pick with Bethesda.

Thank goodness for Amazon. I'm returning it too. And getting a 360 copy. And yes, Bethesda DO deserve my money, for they have created the greatest game ever created, and in all honesty they could charge me 100 pounds for this game and I would still feel I had my money's worth.

I think I'll keep playing Skyrim until it goes unplayable for me too, then I'll return it for a full refund with any means necessary. At least I can buy Rage for backup and LUCKILY it's developed by id Software. As Bethesda was only the publisher, they haven't had a chance to ruin it... I hope

Not that Rage would replace Skyrim in any way... sigh

I've reached level 37 and enjoyed well over 100 hours with my PS3 copy of Skyrim, as well as obtaining about 75% of the available trophies (working on platinum). I have had some framerate issues but nothing that hasn't been solved by restarting my console.

I don't approve of how Bethesda released a sub-standard PS3 version, but I can't deny I've still had a lot of fun with the game. On my conscience, I will not be returning my game to Amazon, even if they would give me a full refund.

I agree, if Skyrim stays like that for me too (restarting it makes it work again) then I'll definitely keep it. Otherwise, if the lag gets worse and is not fixed, I'll never give another thought to Bethesda's direction EVER again. I still hope it could be fixed though, as no issue that exists is unfixable if one wants to fix it. It's up to their morale, if there is any.

i think I'm in the range of 80 to 100 hrs too and I'm seeing minor frame rate issues, longer loading screens, issues with town folk if i wait inside a town once in a while, but it can all be solved by restarting so far... and certainly nothing like the game breaking issues i heard about so far. i have the second gen fat PS3, maybe the issues are generation specific?

I want to return it... but it's so much fun on a new game for those brief hours before it becomes chopped like a Co-ed in a horror movie... It's good to know that my faith in Amazon's return policy is well placed, and if I get the urge to snap the disc in half... I can simply mail it back instead.

I'm just about to start a third character, My nearly 10 year old has been begging me to let her try the game, even going so far as finishing her week's homework 3 days before the turn-in day to try and butter me up. Maybe I can get her to scoop after the dog and rake the leaves too.

I really just want it patched and playable after the early part of the game.

Best Buy will not take back the item. I tried.

So Bethesda got my cash and is laughing about it. Yeah, I was stupid. But they won't get any cash from me for expansions, which they almost surely would have if the core product worked.

It must be every programmer's and company exec's dream to know that your product made someone feel stupid for purchasing it. Bravo! Well played, sir!

Gamestop decided that they won't take it back from me unless the disc is damaged, and even then they will only let me trade it for another PS3 version :(

2. Return it, when there is some one else working there
3. Buy a used copy for $20... I paided $40, but my local store now has 8 of them for only $20 :( / :)
