Although I thoroughly enjoyed the game and had great entertainment with it since release day there was always the doubt that the further I progressed the more serious the lag would become and that if it eventually reached an unplayable state and my 30 day return window was exceeded then I would have a useless game on my hands collecting dust.
After reaching level 36 and with the patches installed there was some improvement in performance initially but eventually the framerate would suffer slightly and although playable was sufficiently annoying to try a character deletion and total reinstall to see if starting from scratch would benefit the experience. I don't think it did, and even with a level 2 character I noticed a slight skipping with objects in the 'peripheral vision' (the rocks as I ran) and then in a dungeon there was a noticeable sluggish feeling to the architecture, very slight but annoyingly there. Texture pop-up I hadn't noticed on release day was also evident and not a good sign from a fresh re-boot.
Skyrim is a great game, immense fun and looks terrific but the stories that pour in of reaching unplayable lag have persuaded me to 'jump ship' and get my cash back.
I hope one day, in the not too distant future, I can read topics here that are full of the joys of how PS3 Skyrim is a healed beast and a joy to play from zero to 300 hours and then I can re-purchase it at a reduced rate or as a Platinum title, but right now, as a thrifty consumer, I would prefer money back in my wallet.
No hard feelings to Bethesda. I've had fun...........for free.
