A review thats spot on

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 7:03 pm

Finally a review thats pretty much nailed it on the head comes from Edge Magazine. They gave it 6 out of 10, marking it down because of the flaws which still havent been addressed. And they gave it that mark without finding out about the gamebreaking DLC save issue, imagine what it would have got if they encountered that little pearl. Unfortunately I cant link to the review because of the site rules so you will have to google it.

The first honest review of NV that I have read. I wish others had been as honest with their scores.

I would have given it a 0.

It doesn't work and it is completely unplayable for many of us, so big fat 0.

I mostly agree with your score, but I would only agree totally if the reviewer had had the "luck" of having his saves corrupted...which unfortunately for the reading audience hasn't openly occurred.

The unfortunate thing is there is a great game lurking in there somewhere that we simply cannot enjoy due to a total lack of pre-release testing. I know around 30 people who have attempted to play this game and every one (yes, that is everyone) has come up against the DLC save corruption bug resulting in them either abandoning the game, completing the game in a way they didnt want to or residing not play until the patch comes out, and the lack of information regarding the patch is extremely disrespectful to say the least and will impact future sales.

The game should have been delayed a couple of months to properly play-test it and iron out the bugs, but whoever is in charge of releasing the game, be it Bethesda or Obsidian, took the entirely monetary reason and made sure they got the pre-christmas rush, which might seem a good business plan in the short-term will surely hurt them in the long, and they only have themselves to blame. I for one will never buy a game made by these two games developers on release day ever again and will wait a couple of months at least before purchasing, and that being the case it would make sense to buy a second-hand copy as its cheaper, thus no money going to the companies involved. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me, and that is not going to happen.

Yeah I hate to admit it, but I have suffered every Other bug BUT the DLC corruption and being locked out of the strip. I've played approx 200 hours with 3 full playthroughs (just two achievements and a quick last playtrough left!) and I can say I would have had so much better of a review had the game been ironed out. As is I've had a lot of free time to mess with the game, and it really is sad how much is broken, missing, and just unfinished. Was anyone in that much of a hurry to play this game? They announced development for FONV along with point lookout and mothership zeta DLC. I could have waited till spring (which would have been awesome and would only have furthered sales after the holiday peak. Even releasing in Dec would has availed more time.
What's interesting is the amount of effort being focused on Brink, which I can assume would not be as successful as FONV, at least if they had done it right. Now they've affected sales of FONV DLC and upcoming titles.
Hey Beth, you know I can rent games right? Or even better return used games in 5 days If I want, no questions asked.
More to the point, ive owned the game a month and I've exhausted every facet of this game. Too bad you didnt make more schematics, finish vacant locations, or even made the game hard. I played it on hardcoe very hard and it still wasnt very challenging. I mean, if it's one thing I can do, it's eat and drink.

The only REAL challenge has been staying on top of stray companions, reputation bug nightmares, and all the other bumbles left in.
If this game had worked I might have finished my most thorough playthrough in 30 hours.

Why can games just release what works for the right price...say FONV chapter 1(in full working order but with less content) fr $39.99 and then release DLC accordingly. That way deadlines are met and the game actually works.

Hopefully its the last time we see a game from Obsolete (sorry Obsidian) and the franchise goes to a developer that can handle it and treats its consumers with more respect. :brokencomputer:

Typically I do not care for reviews as pretty much everyone is bought off now adays-- Sigh--(huh maybe I am just paranoid nah).

Also I am starting to have the sneaky suspision that maybe the game was not so buggy until they started pulling bits out to be added for there first DLC before they released the game... I mean really the BOS bunker needs locked before other fixes it just boggles my mind...

For some reasOn I haven't had any BoS issues...I keep escaping the major issues, though I am without doubt they are real.
I did suffer a 4 day lay off where I was freezing in any combat situation during first playthrough.
I don't necessarily rely on reviews but I love zero Punctuation.

It would be good to have a review that was dedicated solely to performance issues. Something comprehensive that mirrored forum discussions.

It is a playable with all the bugs and glitches just gets annoying in facing the bugs in the game. So to say its a 0 you would played it in about less than an hour and demanded a refund to the store you purchased from. I say at most 4 out of 10. Nothing less than a 3.

I should clairfy a bit I was meaning the abandonded Bos Bunker which starts unlocked but strangely becomes locked with no key in game soon as there was an update??? (hence why i believe a lot of the problems were them cycling out locations and quest parts so they would have a jump on earning more money on expansions since this location does has some Dead money graffiti on the wall go figure... at the moment i do not have the luxury of live so low and behold my door is still unlocked) though the straight Bos bunker does have some rather nasty loopholes itself.

The Official Xbox Magazine gives it a 9.5 which does not suprise me. I pretty much always deduct 2 points from their reveiws to get close to reality. They should be honest and call their "reviews" third party marketing.

At its current state id give it a 4/10 which is such a shame as theres a 9/10 waiting to be released from this buggy nightmare. And as for the Official Xbox Magazine and various other publications i feel they tend to review more on hype rather than actual playtests.

just read the review, and it nails it completely. i am reluctant to admit that the paragraph on combat is true, however it is. Fallout 3 was my favourite game, and i thought this would be too, but the love i had for 3 hasn't carried over. I blame the involvement of obsidian games, but whatever the cause, this game lacks the flair that it so nearly could have had.

Besides the Xbox magazine who is giving Fallout: New Vegas high score reviews? From what I have been reading, they have been scathed for the buggy products and were getting 7.5s. I haven't seen one 9 score. So I can't see how people were bought off, because they said the scores would have been higher if there were no bugs. They metnioned the bugs and scathed Obsicidian for it. Now if you want to talk about reviewers being paid off, just look at the Civ V reviews. There is no way on earth that Civ V could be 9s and 9.5s. At least with F:NV I belive the reviews are to be fair, at least on the xbox because that is what I am playing it on.

Are you kidding me ? They had two years to build a game that was for the most part already built . All Nv is, is rehashed FO3 . They still have the same problems as FO3 which came out when? Ten years ago . At what point do you say you have had enough time . The problem is obviously unsolvable Or it would have been solved by now . The only way the game is gonna get " fixed " is if they scrap the engine and start from scratch . I bet you 10 Modders could have designed this gave from FO3 in half the time .

Or just over 2 years ago (Oct 2008) in the real world!

Playstation Magazine gave it a 8/10. There's so much content in this game that makes you kinda look past the glitches just a bit. Still it is unfinished and the deadline that Beth gave Obsidian was probably not enough time to properly fix the game. Still a great game and a nice addition to the Fallout lore. The patches are on their way. ^_^

That's not the truth in the least. The complex writing and coding of the said wiriting takes enormus amount of time. Had it been only a rehash of FO3, it would've only involved a big map and a couple (or even just one) path through.

Love how reviewers have to wait for an Obsidian game to start ripping on bugs. Not like a great many bugs were present in vanilla Fallout 3 at release no sirree. 10/10 Game of the Year that one. :whistling:

That's how the industry works. A big name cannot do any mistakes that cannot be overlooked by the internal "quality". Bethesda is known for sales and popularity (no bugginess taken into account), Obsidian is know for buggy games so those are the ones that are looked for (though some reviews have been smart and looked past those and seen the actual game).
