Revised Placement System?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 7:30 pm

So obviously with decorating comes the problem of placing items within the game world and as anyone who's tried to decorate their existing house knows, this is virtually redundant as items can usually be found on the other end of the room upon returning home.

Even display cases are pointless for anything other than weapons (admittedly all they are actually for) as even after closing the case, my items tended to reappear on the floor upon reloading.

Hell, putting things on shelves is much the same deal.

So is it safe to assume then that Bethesda has revised their placement system? Or worked in something similar to what they introduced with bookcases where display cases and shelves will use an inventory system?

If they expect what they're offering to work, then this is something that should absolutely have been polished for this DLC.

They must have, and if you notice in the trailer, there was a display case full of skulls not weapons.

I seriously hope so. I think there is a system for decorating shelves, I've read you have to drop all your decorations on the floor, leave the cell. Save, shut off, load up, re-enter the cell, then start decorating, in order to prevent items from falling off shelves and tables.

However, I am hoping there is a better system in Hearthfire.

I've tried. Still looking for a decent place to display Azura's Star, there's rarely a shelf with enough height for it to fit. So once I tried putting it in a display case, which closed properly and everything. When I came back, the star had somehow escaped onto the floor. At least it was courteous enough to close the display case on it's way out.

Yeah, that's hardly what you'd call a 'system'. More like taking advantage of the engine.

Hell, since Dawnguard or one of the updates, I always seem to pick things up from the bottom which makes decorating that much more tedious.

Dammit, I worked hard for that thing. The least it could do is have the decency to just let me show it off.

Think about it, they would have had to implement a placement system with regard to the House Building process anyway. It stands to reason that they would have extended this to include objects in the game world besides the house-pieces.

My hope levels are rising!
