I haven't read about it anywhere and I am about 20 hours into the game. So far I have been able to repair everything to MAX condition. I have never had to pass a check to repair an item and my skill is only 26. Is this how it is for everyone?

Does the repair skill now only make a difference on the work benches? I just wanted to double check.

Yes, it has. The repair skill changes how much you can repair with each item. i.e. A repair of 10 may take 100 items to repair 1 to max where a repair of 100 may take 2 items to repair it to max.

Repair effects how much is repaired per attempt, not the max that can be repaired.

Yes and it affects how much you can repair from part to part. Like at 20-ish you'll get 10% or so out of each item. at 70 you might get 30% or something.

Perks, work bench options, a few speech checks, and how much you can repair at once. Unless you have dreams of power armor it isn't needed to go higher than 70, with 50 (to make weapon repair kits) being more than enough for awhile.

If you plan on using somthing like That Gun for a long period of time it's also good to get it up to 90. I'm 2 levels from Jury Rigging.
