Right to Self-Defense

With that case going on in Florida it's already bringing up the question of the "Stand Your Ground" law. This basically stipulates you have the right to defend yourself with lethal force if you feel threatened. Some have criticized the law saying it gives people the right to just kill others in the name of self-defense. However, with what i've seen in the media lately it really makes me wonder if some people believe that others should have the right to defense themselves.

Does a person have the right to defend themselves against an attack from another individual, even if it means using lethal force? (Note: I'm talking "Justified" defense as in someone tries to rob you, or attacks you unprovoked. Not something where you taunt/goad someone into attacking you first "aka provoked" or initiate the attack first.)

I think people in the U.S. need their reality TV, which is why this case has persisted in the media.

Yes, of course they have the right. If a life is threatened, then by all means that person has the right to fight back and take a life of another. It's the "either me or them" scenario.

I hope they change the manslaughter law, which states if you shoot a person in the back, even if they had held you a gunpoint, is a crime. Seriously, the person just put a gun to my head. It's not like the victim can pull out a gun and hope to survive while he is being robbed. Smart thing to do would be to wait until the robber turns around and shoot him. Easier said than done, yes, but it's been done before in third world countries many times, especially Brazil where the law is getting out of hand. I am all for self-defense.

I predict that this thread will be locked soon.

We don't allow political discussions on the forums, and at the moment this is a particularly volatile political topic in the US.
