Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:04 pm

=.= You people tempt me towards spoilers. But alas my lips are sealed, just know that it makes sense how the humans get destroyed in the movie, but you have to have seen it to understand it :P

Anyone who's seen the original/s should know how it happened. Unless they decided to rewrite history. I mean, the first ones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5R_pS0h5Qk says it all. Then there was 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' which covered it again.

I'll wait til it's on TV or buy the Bluray, used, later.

One question, where the [censored] did San Francisco get an army of monkeys? In the trailer there is a [censored] ton of monkeys and I cannot for one second believe that the lab had that many.

There's obviously going to be some stuff you'll need to suspend your disbelief for. It's Planet of the Apes. Even the original films were just decent B movies with weird plots, but were entertaining despite their shortcomings. I'm expecting exactly that with this film.

Spoiler

There are other places with apes than the lab, like zoos and such. And around 40 hardly makes up for an army :P

Yeah, I'm sure the US military and all the armed civilians in the Bay Area (population 6 million) would just cave to what few apes there are in the region. What a ridiculous premise. Anyway, playing along with the premise
Spoiler
Just give the drug that made the apes super intelligent to Humans (which already have a larger brain) and suddenly you shoot past the apes in intelligence again. Evolution and history has shown the bigger brain wins.

Every once in a while, I go see movies that I want to be good, but for whatever reason, just weren't. It happens all the time, where a brilliant concept is created, but it never takes advantage of its potential and flops. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is apparently not one of those movies. It's one of those movies that, no matter how many times you view the trailer, you believe there is no possible way this movie can't be bad. Movies like this are never good. Yet, despite all of this, critics are praising it, and it has an 81% approval on Rotten Tomatoes (87% Audience). I didn't want to see this movie, but despite all of my protestations, it's apparently good. I think I need to see it now. (Plus James Franco and Tom Felton are good actors)

I won't be seeing it, as I haven't seen any of the others. Nor do I intend to anytime soon.

Anyone should give it a chance. I think that people expect it to be super cheesy but it's suppers to be a movie with a rush, all I want to know is if the apes talk.

That works if you have a loaded gun on you all the time and don't mind murdering chimps who may or may not want to harm you.
I don't think it's absurd that super intelligent apes would overthrow us, the fact you find it absurd is a card in their favor. Imagine calling in backup because a bunch of gorillas are shooting at you. The time spent scrambling from just how bizarre the whole deal is could be enough time to get some more apes to increase your ranks. That's the problem I have, though, is that there cannot be enough apes to kill or capture six billion humans. Each ape would need to kill like a million people, which is insane. Plus, most apes are only found in Africa so they'd have to organize there and then make their push. I'm assuming in this movie they experiment with apes in a first world country, which would require that ape to either flee to Africa or call in his buddies - which, if their intelligence is due to a drug, would mean he couldn't perform the latter.
I guess I'll have to watch the movie.

Okay, but if apes atttack what happens when the US army deploys a Gunship, bye bye apes. It's just not possible. Plus thier hands would be too big to use human guns.

From the trailers, it looks incredibly [censored] stupid. Which means it still might be entertaining. But regardless, I have a feeling the trailers showed the best parts, and that the majority of the film is just a bunch of worthless technobabble BS that anyone with a high school education of science would know makes no damn sense.

I guess I'm the only one who saw Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

I've seen all of the original Apes movies. I wasn't a big fan of the Planet remake, but the Apes were done well. This looks to be a good sight better than that one, though.

I saw the whole series. grew up with them. Roddy Mc Dowall's Cornelius was always my favorite ape. Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes pretty much negates Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
I like that the graphics for the title match the original graphics.
I want to see it, or at least rent it.
Hopefully this time the reason for humans losing domince will be plausible.

:P Don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge a movie by its trailer. Just watch it and you will understand.

You have to judge the movie by the trailer and by what others say about it, b/c if it svcks you would've wasted you money on that crude, and we don't want that now do we?

The movie looks horrible and boring. But I'm pretty sure the action scene make the movie seem better than it is.

Also I like what happens in the book better, it makes more sense as to how all those apes could revolt.

I don't understand why people are saying they don't want to see it because it seems too absurd. Who cares if it makes sense? I'm sure most of you guys have played Beth's games based on you being here. Is magic not absurd? Fallout is riddled with Science!!! TES and Fallout are still good though. If I want something to be accurate, I'll watch a documentary. If I want to be entertained, I'll watch apes taking over the planet.

How dare you introduce logic to the Beth forums. For shame.

Its a modern remake of a classic, so that means its terrible.

Excuse me, not remake, a spin off, still, its just as bad no doubt.

I don't see why someone would say that. But I know I don't want to see it because it looks like a bad movie aka a movie I don't want to watch. I know I said that I liked the book version better because it made more sense, but that's because it would make for a better story.

But it doesn't matter Im not watching the movie, I don't care how logical or illogical the movie. The only way they could get me watch this movie is to put a 25 minute gameplay video of Metal Gear Solid RIsing in the middle of it.

I kind of hate when they do these remakes/ spin off movies.

It's annoying because they usually make the move have nothing to do with the original movie or cartoon, they make it all gimmicky.

Like the smurfs, why are they in a big city, when they usually live under some mushrooms?

And Alivin and the chipmunks, why aren't they 3 feet tall?

MInd you I don't mind when they come up with an original story for the movie, I just don't like when the change things around for the movie

I just saw it, and it was great. Was a might disappointed with the ending, but it's a minor gripe. If anyone's wondering about how the apes win against the humans. I'll put it in a spoiler.

Spoiler
The humans release a drug the cures many brain diseases, but it causes a virus that kills people (woops!). The drug also boosts intelligence in humans AND apes, but the apes don't die from the drug.

In this amazing scene, Caesar screams "NO!" and beats the hell out of Malfoy.
