RoleplayingRealistic equipment issues.

Post » Sun Dec 16, 2012 3:52 pm

I have an issue with my equipment when I am roleplaying. I scratched deeply into medieval warfare, and I do know a thing or two about it, but since this is fantasy game I don't know how to approach it with realistic view.
I'd say one set of armor (one we are wearing) is a limit. I doubt it would be realistic to have more in our inventory, so I always stick with one. But the real problem are weapons, potions and misc. So I would like to hear your opinion about it;

1. Two handed sword, one handed sword and a shield - Is it too much for a Dovahkiin to carry at the same time and be combat efficient?
2. What number or arrows would be realistic to have in your quiver?
3. How many potions?
4. How much food and misc?
5. Horses in Skyrim are slow but hardy, how much do you think they would be able to carry?
6. Switching from weapons to magic - Do I have to drop a sword to use magic (When I say drop, I mean to lose it for current combat by dropping it next to me)?
7. With full gear on (armor, weapons), would I be able to carry, let's say, a quest item heavy as two handed weapon?

I know it depends on a player, but lets say this is for Nord warrior, who's strong and has quite nice amount of stamina (He doesn't use magic, I asked for it in general).
What are your thoughts on this, where and how should I limit myself?

1) Sword sheated on left leg, sheild on arm, 2h-sword on back. Heavy yes but doable for a strong nord
2) A quiver can take many arrows IRL depending on size of course
3) A few potions hanging on your belt. You won't have a backpack because the 2h sword is there
4) Not much food, since you're carrying potions and weapons already. A few small rations
5) The horse would be able to carry another armor and some weapons and sidepacks filled with food and potions, but you would'nt be able to ride it which you have to - unless you have mods
6) The 1h sword can be sheated on the left leg again, 2h sword on the back, shield on your arm, but gameplay wise the weapons will magically disappear
7) Carry yes, but you have to drop it if a fight ensues

Maybe you should just play Mount&Blade(:Warband) instead.

I like your signature!

And your post is very off-topic. The OP asked how to RP regarding equipment carry, he didn't ask about what other games to play.

This sounds good for a Nord warrior. I believe it would be different for perhaps other "class/race", but this is what I was aiming for. Yet the one handed sword bothers me a bit, for example if I had Nordic one handed sword (Dragonborn), it's quite big sword, it would be an issue to have it sheated on your leg. Do you think it would be possible to have it sheated next to your hip, and still carry two handed with it on your back?

If you sheath your sword first there's no need to drop it while pulling out the magic.

It's a good game, but nah, like Richard say, this is just RP wise for Skyrim.

Yeah I wanted to edit this to my previous quote, I think sheathing could take time, and that might be crucial in combat. Let's say I want to blast someone with firebolt really quickly before he stabs me to death, it would be really risky to sheathe your sword and cast spell, dropping it would be quite faster. Then again, it surely depends on situation, so both sheathe and drop could be used I believe. Even tho I like sheathe idea better.

If someone is trying to stab you, you would'nt wanna lower your weapon!

So you want RP with realistic equpment in a fantasy world which has magic, dragons and zombies.

Maybe quivers can hold infinate arrows because of magic. Maybe steel is signicantly lighter due to the mass of the world? NPC archers don't seem to run out of arrows.

Just because there is tone of fantasy, it doesn't mean I want to be magical being who can do whatever I please. Perhaps there are quivers with magical infinite arrows, but I made mine as blacksmith, and they are not infinite. If the steel was lighter, I would be able to equip 2x two handed weapons, but since I can't I take it it's quite similar to our world.
It's just, if you don't have a feeling or liking for RPing, it's kinda pointless to start a discussion over this, because it will lead us nowhere.
