Rome: Total War saved my bacon.

Post » Tue Nov 19, 2013 9:33 pm

So yesterday, I was enjoying a leisurely morning reading "Conquest of Gaul" by Julius Caesar. I'd planned on going grocery shopping around 10:30 am, but when the time came, my inner-slacker decided to fire up R:TW instead for a bit, probably had something to do with my reading.

I get everything going, I play a few rounds as the Germans, fight a small scale skirmish, then POOF, power goes out. I knew it was storming outside, but wasn't sure why the power went out.

Turns out it was this: http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/18/us/midwest-tornadoes/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

If it hadn't been for the urge to play R:TW instead of running my errands like a good boy, I would have been at the Washington, Illinois Kroger store right about 11:00 am, which is right around when and where that little bugger landed.

Anyone else get hit with any of those bad boys we had flying around the Midwest this weekend?

Reminds me of a time where I avoided a car accident by skipping school once.

Congratulations by the way.

No tornados, but I was invited to Ut?ya on 2011 when http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Norway_Attacks happened. I was lazy so I didn't attend, but if I did I might've been slaughtered.

Sloth saved my bacon.

I was definitely expecting the game to save some literal bacon.

Heh, reminds me of one time in college. It was 2:00 in the morning, I was wide awake and had the sudden urge to snack. Nearest vending machine was about a half-mile away, and I decided to drive over to it. So I went over, got some snacks, came back to my dorm...and saw that the car that was parked in the spot right next to where mine had been was on fire. So my car was saved purely because I had the munchies. :P

wow OP, that is an interesting story..

you got the munchies, so you drove to a vending machine..? were there no 24/7 convenience stores or gas stations in your area? I can always find an open gas station...
and what caused this car to be set on fire? what makes you think the same thing could have harmed your Car, as it sounds like arson directed towards the individual owner of the other car.

If it was a college campus there probably weren't too many gas stations.

Generally speaking, if the car next to yours in a parking lot catches fire the best you can hope is that all you get is the paint blistered off one side of your car...but usually it will be worse; broken glass from heat expansion, warping all the plastic body and interior moldings, tires damaged and requiring replacement, etc.
