1-room dungeons...

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 4:13 am

I've just entered 3 dungeons in a row in close proximity(center-west of map), the most decent being dustman's cairn. Before that, it was redoran's retreat. I don't remember the name of the one before it.

All 3 of them were just 1 or two rooms big. Each had around three enemies in it.
And that was it, the 'dungeon' was done.

Before these 3 'dungeons', I entered a fort. It contained a whopping 6 enemies, with an orc bandit boss on the roof.
I'd be fine if that was the standard for 'small dungeon', but Bethesda really managed to make some dungeons smaller than 3 rooms.

I haven't entered half of the dungeons in the gameworld, so I'm asking you guys: is this common?

Are there many of these small dungeons, or are the vast majority of the dungeons much bigger (ie oblivion dungeons)

Thanks

Dustmans Cairn is FAR bigger. However, to unlock it all you have to do a quest for the companions. That probably applies to others you will get a quest for them sooner or later. And yes most dungeons are huge.

i'd try exploring some of the barrows, they seem to be the larger dungeons based on the two i have been in.

Dead man's cairn... wait... there's more. You just haven't unlocked the quest that expands that one. Interesting fun quest.

Most dungeons I've gone in have been about twice the size I expected them to be so far.

Found one cave that was one room big, with two spiders, and I couldn't find a door. Could be a quest cave though. In all other "small" caves I've been to I have found a lever or secret door somewhere and it has turned out that the cave was actually quite big atleast.

Not common at all, almost all of my dungeons have been long 30 min+ dungeons. I have only came across 2 small dungeons (of the probably 20 - 25 dungeons I have already done) small keep of conjurors, and an indoor natural mountain of sprigands that was "one room", but wound around and upwards, so it was easily 3 rooms worth of fighting.

oh okay thanks for the info about Dustman's Cairn, I didn't know it expands when you get the quest.

Check out redoran's retreat, though. 2 rooms, 3 enemies. I dunno if Bethesda counts it in their list of 150 dungeons but its pretty lame if they did.

Thanks for the info guys, I was worried they skimped on the dungeon sizes :)

Explore Nordic tombs. They're always pretty big, have puzzles and a lot of them have a Word Wall at the end. Very rewarding, and fun, experiences.

Found a small witches coven (witches svck by the way...especially with hagravens backing them up)
And a one room area with a spriggan matron....i was level 7
I almost died had i not used fury on the ice wolves nearby:..

I also found another small dungeon where i helped a hagraven called mytra i think...she wanted revenge on her sister for stealing her tower...
So i released her and she helped me solve all the puzzles and traps in the rooms...we flew by...also she was ridiculously strong.....
And i can return to hang out with her any time.....so long as she stays away from my eyeballs.....hagravens really like boiling eyes....

Yeah, I remember now I actually made a play-through of Redorans Retreat. I believe it is the type of "infinite quests" you will get, where they will place a mob for you to go and kill for a quick quest

I've actually seen a few of these super small 'dungeons'. They're completely offset by the dungeons that just go on and on forever. I thought they were kidding when they talked about two-hour long dungeon runs, no they weren't!
