Ruby Dragon Claw door glitch

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 12:27 pm

So, I'm doing the quest to get accepted into the Bard's College. I need to go through a cave called "Dead Men's Respite", and in it I get the ruby dragon claw.

Well I get what I need for the quest, and to get out I need to use the claw to open the door and all that. But the door won't open. The rings won't move even when I activate them. Reloading saves don't help either. Anyone encounter the same glitch? Anyone have any solutions?

EDIT: Now I have a different problem. The rings seem to be working again, but the right combination is not.

The Ruby claw says it's Wolf, Eagle, Wolf. But when I put that combination in, it doesn't open.

I am also getting this glitch (or at least the first part) with the wheels not being able to spin. I have the claw. I have the book. If I try and activate the claw, that still works, but without the proper combination I just get shot at with darts. Will this be fixed in the next patch? I can't join the bard's college without it.

While I can't help you with your second problem, whenever the rings fail to move just save and reload, or step out and step back in, whichever is quickest. The code issue may be able to be remedied the same way. Not to insult your intelligence but make sure you have the correct animals by zooming in on the inventory screen. I've been stuck on a door or two where I swore it was a certain animal combination but I finally swallowed my pride, zoomed in and found I was off by one.

Tried to reload save (multiple saves even). I even tried to recomplete the entire dungeon and still when I get to the wheel, the rings won't turn. I have tried to follow walkthroughs, faqs, everything, and the rings simply won't turn. So it is not a matter of the animals not matching up. How could they when you can't spin the rings. It is a locked door that I will never be able to pass. I guess I am not becoming a bard...

I'm having the same problem myself and have accepted the fact that I can't open the door. Is there any way to get out of dead man's respite without using the claw puzzle door?

Exactly the same thing happened to me for the same Ruby Claw puzzle door, same thing..reloading or replaying the quest didnt change the fact the combination wheels wont turn at all....not found a solution and not seen Bethesda confirm the glitch is something they are looking that

hit me night before the 1.2 patch fiasco...and is the main reason i will be starting from scratch after 1.3 goes live

I went to dead man's respite yesterday and got through it no problem, the door worked just fine, except i wasn't on the quest I just stumbled on the place by accident so I guess the quest itself may be glitched..

Possibly, I completed the quest for the lost verse, before going to the puzzle door....hmmmm

I had the exact same two problems as you, OP.

The only way to fix rings that don't turn is to go out through a load door. That's impossible in Dead Man's Respite, so you have to reload a save from outside the dungeon (or at least from before you jumped down that grate or whatever it was, and then go out).

I think the only way to fix the correct combination not opening the door is to reload a save from before you entered the dungeon, although I'm not 100% sure of that. I did the dungeon 3 times before it worked correctly. I'll let you know that on the time I got it to work, I made sure to only activate the rings one at a time. I don't know if trying to spin multiple rings at once made the correct combo not work.
