I generally sacrifice one of the 2-hand weapon users. I don't like 2handed weapons, so these are the characters that I will never use anyway. Figure out who you are least likely to ever want to use in the future and thats your guy.
First playthrough I chose Benor from Morthal. Reason was that I found him really ugly, that's it really. Second playthrough I chose Njada Stonearm who is a companion in Whiterun. This was much better since she always insults you even when you completed the Companions.

Njada is such a good one the ultimate betrayal, plus I hate her
I accidentelly killed Belathor today, but he is a shop keeper so my momentary happyness was squashed by my need to sell him all my potions and get his money, so I reloaded

Use one of the mercs for hire. They aren't important. But not Mercurio, he is actually cool and unique as he is a powerful mage for hire. I used Benor at Morthal, but I regret it, as the town is already small enough.
Speak of the Devil! I was just talking about this so-called "quest" in another thread. I couldn't do this "quest" again, ever. Terrible concept, one that goes against everything I stand for.
Faendal is usually my sacrifice for this quest. He's worthless beyong low levels.
You do know that you can level up Archery for free with Faendal up to level 50 right? After that you can dispose of him that's true but otherwise I wouldn't choose him.
I've found Faendal to be a really good character, especially when using UFO and when he's working with other followers. He's good at both melee and archery fighting.
lol Come to think of it I might be able to sacrifice him! But then again, my character would never get as far as meeting him. He's just not the type to even get close to joining the Dark Brotherhood. Destroy it, yes (as he did), but never join it in a million years!

If you do the quest "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood" is Cicero taking out of the game?
