Safe loot without buying a house?

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 7:33 am

I don't even have enough for the training I want, so buying a house is out of the question. Is there a safe place in or around Whiterun I can store loot? Somewhere is is fine too, I guess. Please no spoilers though.

Maybe some of those "Something Cabin's" (Like "Alchemist's Cabin") that are out in the wilderness.

Hmm, haven't run into one yet. Guess I have some exploring to do. I was wondering if a dragon corpse would do.

quickest way for a guaranteed safe room would be to go to the college of whitehold, cast a little spell and gain entrance. They'll give you a room with places to store things.

Thanks, I'll do that if I have to, but is there another way that doesn't involve magic? For rp purposes, my character hates magic.

You could go back to the place where the game starts (forgot the name already).
I went back there and it's completely empty, but you can still enter the Keep. You could make your home there for the time being. I'm assuming the chests there are safe storage. Haven't tested them though...

It was rumoured that
Spoiler
dragons are safe containers

But if ur having money problems...do what i do. When clearing out a dungeon, loot EVERYTHING, your character can stil move..but very slowly...then make ur way to the nearest vendor ( cant fast travel when over encumbered...havent tested if u can ride a horse still tho ) by a combination of slow walking and using one handed power attacks to get u there ( dagger and longsword propell u a few meters ahead really fast )....easily make 1000 gold after selling all that loot.

Might take 10 mins or so...but hey :hubbahubba:

your spoiler is incorrect as they do disappear sooner or later.

Riding a horse you can fast travel even encumbered.

Named dragons i'm not 100% certain about. However, I know that dragons DO disappear after a while (granted it's a long while hehe).

Treat any storage that IS NOT an owned property by the PC as safe. Just to be sure.

So far, accomodation/storage has been confirmed in Whiterun, after completing the Bleak Falls Barrow quest from the Jarl. Unfortunately it does cost a pretty penny (5000gp). Available for purchase from Proventus Avenicci, found in the Jarl's palace.

Alternatively, I think the city of Riften (the recruitment city for DB and TG) has a comparatively cheaper house for sale. While the accommodation isn't as flash, it should be perfect for the new comer to Skyrim, or an up-and-coming thief/assassin.

Every major city has a house. Riften is 8k plus all the furniture. Whiterun is the cheapest.

Unless you marry then really it's only 200 gold for the amulet but you do get a wife/husband so take that into consideration if you want too :P

If you choose to leave with the surviving prisoners go meet his sister and you get a key to her house and a bed and chest of draws. Other way is join a guild house in one of the city's. If you kill the dragon at Whiterun you get a armed servant that can carry stuff and fight for you.

I'm curious if the containers in the college, db, companions and thieves are safe or not. I know we get our own room at the college, but is every container in that room confirmed safe?
