The room that you are given when you join the College of WInterhold has a number of barrels, wardrobes etc in it. Are these containers safe to store my items in?

Yes, the ones in your own room.

All the containers your room or only a few specific ones?

All containers in any faction given room, or owned property, will not delete or respawn your items. So all the containers are safe in your room.

All of them as far as I know. I have stuff in the barrels that's been there for 30 levels I'm pretty sure.

Barrels are not always safe, from what I've read and heard around the forums, but the actual furniture like nightstands, endtables, armoires/cupboards, seems fine. I've stored stuff in the cupboards and nightstands for many in-game months without losing anything.

Would be grate to be able to store stuff in winterhold Collage If any thing bugs me about the game is lack of places to store items.

I've only used the tall armoire and I'm certain it's safe. I've read before the barrels are not safe so I never used them. Stick an iron arrow in there and see if it stays for a long time. I need to do that too.
