Same old problems

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 2:39 pm

I'm an avid fan of Bethesda's games, and have played Oblivion, FO3 and FONV on PS3. As is widely known amongst the PS3 community, all three titles shared the same bugs - lagging, freezing, choking, crashing and coughing up blood before collapsing in a small, pathetic puddle of putrid vomit.

With all three titles we were promised that the issues were being looked into and that a fix was on its way. Except, it never was. Sure, there were a few patches here and there. But they didn't solve the major issues your all-too-loyal and PAYING customers had (no way to pirate games on PS3. Certainly not an easy one) and after a while, Beth simply stopped caring and went on their merry way to develop the next broken product on the same old engine.
I predict this will be the fate of Skyrim too and I'll be all too happy to be proven wrong by some frankly unexpected support for once.

Why do I think this? Because, as amazing as the gameworld and the dungeons are, it really is just Oblivion 1.5 - now with dragons.
Same old buginfested heap of dung, same awkward animations, same AI that's more A than I, same wonky physics, so and so forth...

We were told the engine was "brand new, developed in-house" - Manipulation and exaggeration at best, LIES at worst
We were told bugs would be fixed on the fly by some yet unseen realtime magic - Outright LIES
We were told we could affect the economy, that each city/village would have its own economy and that we could, if we so chose, ruin said economy - More LIES
We were told the main quest itself would take between 20 and 30 hours, and while I haven't completed it yet, I've come far enough to able to tell that this is yet another LIE.
We were told the Radiant AI/Story would for instance make it so that if you killed a shopowner, a relative would take over. I've yet to see this and haven't read or heard anything about this since the hype marathon pre-release. Other Radiant Story/AI features that were highly publicized pre-launch are glitchy, rare, barely noticable and at times just a pain in the proverbial behind.

If you, Bethesda, once again choose to leave PS3 users in the dust with a patch that does next to nothing while claiming to have solved the problem, then that's it. I'm SO done with your broken games. I HATE being set up for disappointment like this, and you do it EVERY TIME. God dammit!! As a console user, I do not have the luxury to wait for the modding community to fix your game and make it what it should have been from the start.
Have you no professional pride? At all?

Whatever. Either they'll fix it or they won't. I don't care for petty tantrums against the company. They created a game that in terms of the amount of enjoyment and play time I could get out of it, I should really be paying them way more than I did for just one copy. I'm more than willing to get it again for 360.

I'm not arguing that it's not incredible value for the money you pay (dumped a good 500 hrs or so into Oblivion myself), but when they release the fourth game in a row (counting FONV) with the same shoddy bugs that have been known for years now, it really gets to me. I will not apologize for Bethesda or ignore or downplay the problems any longer. This coming patch better well fix the problems or there will be heck to pay! Heck I say!

Meh, I have no desire to apologise for them. It's not acceptable- don't take me the wrong way, they are definitely in the wrong. But I care more about playign the most beautiful game I've ever seen than I do harbouring a grudge against them. Morrowind and Oblivion gave me many long years of enjoyment, and Skyrim will too. There is absolutely no way in hell I will be choosing to not play Skyrim just because Bethesda screwed up the PS3 copy.

Thanks for stopping by to rant, without reading any threads that are discussing issues and so on. Sorry you are frustrated, but this kind of thread does not help any situation nor does it engender useful discussion.
