Save Data on PS3 Questions

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:00 pm

First of all, sorry if this is a repost, i'm new to these forums.. anyways, here are my questions.

Is it possible to create two or more different characters on the same account?
The reason why I'm saying this is because I recently made a new character on my brother's PSN account and it erased his level 6 mage. Perhaps the auto-save system has to do something with it. This is my first TES game and the save system is very similar to Fallout: New Vegas way of dealing with save files.. F:NV auto saves does not temper with the manual saves... as to TES, it seems that it overwrites every skyrim save files on your one account

Anyways, I'm thinking of using a USB device to store my saves for each of the characters. Can anyone confirm that this works? (hopefully bethesda will fix this soon)
If it does work, could you give me steps of how you did it?

If the USB solution does not work, is the only way (as of now) to play multiple characters... is to make more PS3 Accounts?

Sadly, there is a bug with Skyrim where when you start a new game it creates a new "manual" save of you before you choose your race/appearance. This...Will overwrite any manual save that is in that slot.

So basically if your manual save is in slot 2, and you start a new character, it will detect that the previous time you started a new game it saved this "pre-race choice" save in slot 1, so this time it will save in slot 2. Regardless of whats there already.

Ontop of this the auto saves tend to be choosy where they save, they will randomly overwrite manual saves.

To avoid this, that save thats created "pre-race" choice, start there instead of a new game. Its all the same accept it means you dont see the very first cinematic.

If your brother did not make a proper save file (going Start Menu > System > Save), then he might have only had the autosave, meaning the game autosaved over his only save with your new character.

Basically, the game only runs one autosave between all characters. Manual save any character before you plan to start a new one, even if only for a few minutes of messing around.

If he had manually saved and it overwrote without your request, then I really don't know how that happened. Possibly another many of the thousands of bugs Bethesda should have found.

Edit: I see I was beaten with someone who knows more about it than I do.

Thanks for the quick replies, really appreciate it.

he had a manual save, about 3 of em.. then I made a new character played until you get out of the "introduction" part of Skyrim.. exited the game. Went back a few minutes later to load my brother's files.. but turns out all of those saves were the new character I just made, very frustrating :(
