Save Game Lost on New Character Creation?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:34 am

Hey all,

I recently decided to start a new character to explore a new style of play, and when I booted the game up tonight I noticed that I only have saves from this new character, all of my old character's saves have completely disappeared?

Am I just being ignorant and not seeing an option to look at a different character, or does this game simply only allow one character at once?

Many thanks!

I had one autosave and one manual save I think. Both gone, replaced by the new characters :/

Only small consolation is the fact that I hadn't gotten very far on my first character, 6-7 hours work. I hope they patch this, a problem like this shouldn't have made it past testing surely?

Autosaves get replaced. Manual saves wouldn't have been replaced.

Yeah I'm pretty certain I had a manual which then got replaced, because I kept over-writing it with the new save, and using the auto-save as something of a backup. Both are now gone. So yes, my manual save did get over-written.

This is exactly why I have around 8 saves.

Plus I back a few of them up. Also I have my ps3 set to save and back all of the saves up each night automatically.

Note to others maybe suffering the same problem: I've created a temporary fix by using a USB to keep my new character safe (copied the manual save file to it) whilst I rebuild the first. I'll just have to swap them across from USB to PS3 as and when I feel like changing.

So to switch:

- Make a manual save
- Go to the PS3 save data menu and find the save file. Copy it.
- Have a USB ready and plug it into the PS3.
- Copy the save file into the USB.

Then should hopefully be safe to make a new character. Then just do the same again when you want to play the old character, and keep on top of deleting redundant copies that might get left around or you'll soon get confused (like I just did)

Hope this gets fixed soon :(

You have to, when saving, select "Create a New Save" or whatever it says. The file thats already there is actually an autosave you can load to start a new game right where you create your character. If you save over it when you start a new game it erases what was there

I want to say this is a case of people getting confused over how the save system works but I'll back up my old saves before I start a new character just in case.
