Saving Games... or not.

Post » Wed Dec 05, 2012 5:18 pm

I have about 1000 numbered saves in my Skyrim game. Some are missing... no idea where they have gone.

BUT

The problem, is that new saves do not save. My last save is 1021 - if I do Start, Save (takes 2-3 mins a go), nothing happens.

Ive been getting away with using autosave, but I am now stuck in a Dragonborn DLC glitch, and I'm looking at losing 2-3 weeks worth of game time.

Any ideas please?

Are you saying you have about a 1000 savegames, or are you saying you have less than that but the savegame 'numbers' are over 1000? If you actually have over 1000 savegames, then it is wise to delete many of the older ones. I personally keep about 12 savegames in total, and manually overwrite the oldest savegame when I manually save (about every five minutes). Remember that when you go into the system menu of Skyrim, the game has to collect information on all the savegames you have on your storage device. Collecting this information requires Xbox memory, as well as taking a lot of time for the HDD to seek and find the relevant information (which is especially slow if you have anything over 50 savegames). It could be possible that the game is having problems freeing up enough memory to collect the savegame information, because of everything else the game needs to keep in memory (including the new DLC you have).

You mentioned it takes about 2-3 minutes to save a game? When I manually save to the HDD, it takes about 5 seconds to save (the savegame is about 10Mb in size). I would guess that the reason for your slow saving is again, due to the number of savegames you have. It could be worth a try reducing the number of savegames.

well tbh im not sure... im so confused right now.

interesting points about the save games in total though. basically, the 'number' next to the save is at 1025. on investigation into my hard drive, there are many more - 1025 has 5 different saved games apparently (i.e. 1025 30hrs, 1025 31hrs, etc.) and thats the case for most.

i am now going through and deleting as many as possible, and i've noticed duplicates for others are appearing in skyrim when they werent before - so before i had 1010, 1011, now i have 1010, 1010, 1010 etc.

sorry if this all seems a little rushed, i've spent 2hrs trying to sort the glitch, now tearing my hair out over these saves.

Will delete a sizeable number (maybe even down to 12 like your setup) and post back the results. thanks.

ok, i've deleted probably 100 and the saved game I required is now showing as a loadable option.

i really need to delete more but i really really want to get back into dragonborn and catch up to where i was...

will certainly not bother the people here with this issue again.

thanks
