School of Conjuration...oh what fun!

Post » Mon Jul 30, 2012 1:09 pm

I recently started a female mage named Pixie who is all conjuration, some resto, and uses no weapon other than a dagger. I had no idea how FUN conjuration can be...I love summoning my familiar...I once sicked him on a three spiders near Dawnstar and he made short work of them...then i stumbled on a fort and he made short work of the bandits. What can i say, i'm loving it! What are your experiences with this school? Do you have any advice for later levels? Please share your thoughts.

Are you going to go Necro, or Atronach or both?

I know lots of people love Necromage, but I find it creepy and unpleasant. Vampire Necro is clever and powerful, but it's even more creepy. Also, I usually like doing my own killing.... So let's just say that Conjuration is one of top five favorite magic school for me.

Necro.....that does sound creepy....does the zombie or skeleton follow you around until its killed um...again? So far i've conjured a wolf, a weapon,...not much else although i plan to get more spells when i can...Atronach sounds good if it would melee for me a bit...I love conjuration so far because it gives me time to step back and think a bit more about what i want to do.

I'm glad that you are enjoying the game, and this aspect of the game. Conjuration is probably the most powerful school in magic. Thanks for sharing your happy experience with us.

Do you have any tactics you use with conjuration when it comes to combat? Ever done anything silly with conjuration in a city or town? I haven't tried conjuring my familiar in Whiterun yet...will it cause the guards to attack? I'm curious

i love conjuration, with the bound sword or axe you can pretty much use it for all you killing needs. Plus on squishy mages it gives you a nice meat shield to block attackers. The only thing i don't like is the glitch with absorption where you absorb your own summon...its lame

yeah conjuration is awesome especially once you get dremora lords and the perk to have 2 summons at once 2 dremora lords can take down almost any dungeon in the game during your medium/low levels and during high levels they can usually deal alot of damage or tank before dying

Are the Dremora lords etheral-like or are they physical beings?

Work on your conjuration a good deal and you can.
He's the only 'good' NPC that I eat as a werewolf since I can get away with it without getting a bounty.

Frost Atronachs' "thing" is melee combat, they're like weak giants with frost spells and permafrostcloak. Flame Atronachs explode when they die, and storm atronachs resist damage and are generally tougher than the others. Flaming familiar is really fun to use as a scout, but its easy to blow yourself up if you misuse it. Atromancy perks also effect Dremora lords, which are easily the second-coolest followers in the game (J'zargo's too cool to be less than first).

Dremora are physical generic daemon-race NPC's with strong enchanted Daedric greatswords you summon. They also have really cool lines. "I honour my lord BY KILLING YOU!" "I smell weakness..."

Necro only resurrects up to level 50 against vampires (which are already undead when they "die") and 40 for everything else, and requires strategy to pull off. It's commonly agreed that one of the best permanent undead followers is Orchendor from Peryite's quest, because he fully resists all agic and has some other neat powers. Until he overlevels, Ulfric is a good one too, he can still use shouts as a zombie.

Nothing in conjuration follows you permanently until you get the master level spells, or "thralls," which are the three atronachs and a zombie one. When a zombie expires or is killed, they turn to ash. However, dead thralls only turn into a corpse again on being killed, so you can resurrect them again and again.

Conjuration is a cool school and one of my friends' favourite skills period, but in the end I prefer alteration and illusion.

Ulfric is my Dead Thrall/Pack Mule, he is pretty useful in a fight. My 'army' consists of mostly people who can shout. Ulfric and tons of Draugr Deathlords, forts and such are push overs.

The conjured dremora is really useful. His battle cries are quite funny.
Spoiler
Getting your conjuration up to 90 (I think) you can start using the Atronach Forge to make Daedric weapons/armor. You can also craft scrolls and other cool stuff you couldn't do with a regular forge.

Conjuration is also my favorite school. Only wished there were more Daedra to summon, like in Oblivion. Anyways, Dremora Lord has to be the best spell for Conjuration spells IMO. Amazingly powerful in a fight. Have yet to use any of the Thralls though.

I've been playing a Conjurer/Illusionist and I love it. I primarily use Dremora Lords. They are incredibly powerful and will take down everything. Once you get Master Conjuration, they cost pretty much nothing to summon, unfortunately there are no Permanent ones. I found the Atronachs to be less then useful. They die really quickly to Dragons and their attacks are not very strong, although I only speak for the Flame and Storm. I also use Dead Thralls, and I started doing that at level 47 so I missed out on a few. My suggestions for thralls that you can get will be below, and I will only list those who I have found to have permanent bodies, meaning that if you don't visit their bodies often enough, they will still be there. I have 5.

But yeah, dragons are the only problem I have with this Build. My only direct damage comes from a bound sword which I have no perks in one-handed. So I have to use summons against them. I haven't tried any dead thralls yet, but Dremora lords are so far the only thing that can handle them. Granted, fire draongs take them out pretty quickly and they do get eaten quite often. But since the cost of the spell is so little when you get all the cost reduction stuff (Especially if you are a Vampire with Necromage wearing Arch-Mage robes and Vokun (the dragon priest)).

But yeah these are the Dead Thralls I have found useful and that have permanent bodies (so far from what I can see):

Spoiler

-Orchendor: Pretty much everyone's favorite Thrall. He has an awesome teleport move which seems to heal him and uses frost spells and wards. You can get him through Peryite's Daedric quest "The Only Cure".

-Velehk Sain: To be honest he svcks, but he is a secret character in the midden that is in a quest that doesn't get added to your journal. Some glove and stuff. Just go to the Midden Dark and you will see for yourself. He has a unique hammerfell garb and a scimitar, but is overly useless. Has a permanent body.

-Sild the Warlock: Another great mage. You find him in Rannveig's Fast. Watch out as he will launch fireballs like mad.

-Illia: You find her at Darklight Tower. She actually is a follower for you if you do her quest, so if you don't want to kill her outright, she will help you. But once she dies, don't forget to raise her. I killed her outright. I'm not a fan of followers.

-Naris the Wicked: He is found at Morrvunskar. Another great mage.
I seem to only recommend mages because melee thralls get killed quickly. Do a google search of permanent corpses and you'll find others as well.

As for working Conjuration with Illusion, there is a plethora of options. When you get the Illusion perk Master of the Mind, you can dual cast Rally on your summons raising their Health and Stamina. Call to Arms does more raising, but you can't dual cast it and therefore can't use it on higher level npcs. I highly suggest becoming a Vampire if you use Illusion. You can cast the spells on everything but Dragons. Vampirism also boosts the effects of EVERYTHING from Enchantments on pre-existing items, or those you make, to special abilities and Standing stones. It is one hell of a powerhouse. But another thing Illusion works well with is you can summon your creature of choice, Muffle and then use Invisibilty and let everyone fight for you and no once notice you. Or you can shoot Frenzy into the crowd and just watch everyone slaughter each other. It really is only limited to your creativity.

But I will say right now! If you choose conjuration and you only want permanent thralls, do NOT get dual casting. The thralls are permanent and the dual cast doesn't affect it. BUT, if you plan to use Dremora lords all the time, get it. A Vampire with Dual Casting and Necromage can summon the Lords for a lengthy 6 minutes. That is incredible. And the fact that they barely die is a plus.

Hope this helps. I spent a lot of time looking into this particular build and it so far has worked wonders. If you don't want to be too overpowered, stay away from the Dremora lords, but remember, they may be your only chance against dragons.

Well, you do your conjuration stuff, raise some bodies, summon your weapon, etc..
Illusion on other hand, once you get Master of the Mind perk (90) you're unstoppable :D Basicly there are 3 things in Illusion who make CC very easy. Fury, Fear, and Calm, and those are really basic spells. As it says for itself, it provides endless CC and advantages, who come very handy for your zombies, or what ever you summon.
Basicly just with Illusion you can conquer battlefield if you use proper spells and with Conjuration, it is even more fun.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Illusion to see others, and just imagine what can you do with all that combined with Conjuration
