Sebastian's Animations Are Terrible...!

Post » Sun Jun 16, 2013 10:03 am

Look at the recent gameplay video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PhYh36H6-U

Okay, this is a first from a Mikami game! Bad animations!

The character has janky transitions in the movement, especially going from Crouch to Walking stance.

The character doesn't seem to have any "weight" at all, and that is weird considering the game aims to be cinematic!

Also, Sebastian's face looks lifeless and dead, even though he is in such a situation.

When I think Japanese games, especially Mikami's, I think of great animations.

This one looks worse than even Resident Evil 4, and that was 2 generations behind.

I know you're gonna say "ITS EARLY"... Shouldn't we voice our complaints before these things are set in stone?

I hope Bethesda and Tango are listening.

Dude, this game is targeting a 2014 release its obvious that the gameplay is still filled with many unfinished stuff. I was amazed that they even showed the game in motion that early.

There is no reason to complain when the game is still very early in development.

Lol... Read what I said at the end of my post.

Complain now or never.

If you wait till the game is "ready" no matter how much you complain, nothing will change, because the game will be too far in development.

I worry about the inventory system. Radial menus have always been the lesser of the types. However that doesn't mean things cannot change and it's hard to say anything without details but one thing is almost certain: it will be immersion killing.
http://hermanote.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/resident-evil-inventory-screen.jpg from Resident Evil 1 represents looking into a high tech attache case of sorts, something like http://www.shatterhand007.com/JB007AttacheCase.jpg but high-tech. It also provides inventory management, a vital element of survival gameplay.
The best example of a grid-based inventory would be System Shock 2's.
Now when you have something like http://digitallovechild.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/radial-menu.jpg (so disappointed in Dishonored) it is almost always immersion killing and provides no inventory management. That doesn't mean TEW's system will be bad or not provide inventory management but history says otherwise.

Now music. It has been said there will be little focus on SFX and music. The SFX part is highly questionable for obvious reasons so I wont go into it, but the music in Resident Evil 1 and certain other horror games for me played a big part in setting the atmosphere, giving the area identity, adding to dramatic moments, and just providing entertainment.
I still listen to these from time to time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi-Dz_t1AHM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r9ORFg0AdM

The excellent music played a big part in scaring the crap out of me all those years ago.

And finally the horrible prompts and HUD!

Prompts: What happened to investigating the environment for ourselves? "Nothing of interest" or "He's Kenneth from the S.T.A.R.S Bravo team...! ....now he's become a mere shadow of his former self".

HUD: No HUD, you had to count the bullets in your gun and know the condition of the character by limping etc or checking the inventory.

Going off what admittedly little we know, this really doesn't look set to be a return to classic survival horror. Looks modern, easy and unimpressive so far, the graphics are the very least of my concerns, if at all. It looks great in that department as all "AAA" modern games do.

If I wanted to complain, I'd complain about the toy-like ragdoll physics I saw, and uneven lighting.

I agree with bronzeP though. If this game were releasing this year I'd be worried about a demo this late showing these things, but they've got a lot of time left to polish the game.

I'd be shocked if they weren't aware of these things, I'm not worried.

Why not complain? I'm sure the guys at Bethesda/Tango will appreciate the constructive criticism.

This mentality: "The game is a year away, its too early to complain" is pretty dumb, since it would be too late to complain when the game is well ahead in development.

This is elementary, people.

Actually, many things change in a game's development even at the near end. Everything from graphics to code is updated constantly and even arriving time of release many things get cut and added to a game.

Look at the screenshots they've released so far. They even look very unfinished, but they published them anyway. Why? Because they do not represent the final product.

That said, more people finding more things to complain about might lead to finding a problem not as obvious as animations and graphics. Someone might find something in there we've missed as well
