Second Restart Due to Guardian Stones!

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 5:35 am

So I am restarting again because I am not happy with how fast I am leveling (last played on Master with a thief type character). I made it to lvl 20 in one day and thanks to a certain questline became so over powered that I one shot everything. The reason why is those three darn stone in the very beginning cause your skills to sky rocket. Going to avoid those this time and wait till I have a different set of stones.

Anyone else concerned with how fast leveling is etc.

Also if you become a werewolf, it slows down leveling.

Mnnn. . . not particularly.

Have you tried raising the difficulty? Or perhaps it's a low-scale dungeon?

I play on expert, and I generally am very careful to raise my combat skills as I level as not to get over-classed by the game's spawns.

You know you can switch guardian stone anytime you want right?

I don't know why people don't try these alternatives before making a thread about it.

You do know level 20 is nothing really? You cannot compare it to Oblivion or Morrowind.

This.

And if you're really gung-ho, go find another Guardian stone. Only the first three you find have anything to do with faster leveling.

I never found those stones and I'm a werewolf and I still think I'm leveling pretty fast.

Exactly, unlike Oblivion and Morrowind, 20 is considered less than mid-game. The Soft level cap is 50 compared to 30 in the other games.

I am leveling too fast, but the problem I'm having is the skills I want to buy perks in aren't high enough yet because all the other skills have been leveling me also. I've got like two unused perks now because I need to get my One-Handed higher, but since everything I do levels me I keep going up in levels. I'm about to the point where I'm going to buy training for my main skills, but sense I'm saving up for a very expensive house I was hoping to avoid that.

Yeah I do - but I like my game slower paced

On master difficulty

You do know level 20 is nothing really? You cannot compare it to Oblivion or Morrowind.

At this rate higher level mobs still won't stand a chance - I do upwards of 700 dmg a hit right now.

I understand how the game works and everything - I was just expressing that I was concerned with the level speed. Besides I am not happy with the route my character has taken in this game so far.

Just like everyone else said OP lv 20 is nothing. Sure you might be one shoting a few enemies but you're still a weakling in the grand scheme of things.

I haven't used the stones at all yet. I feel my leveling speed is just about right for me. I've been playing 22 hours and just hit level 10.

I'm struggling to understand how you're one hitting everything on Master.

I got the game today, and spent 12hrs straight getting to level 10. No way does the game level fast, nor is it possible to one hit things on Master at anything approaching a decent area.

Bandits and early monsters, for sure. Everything worthwhile - not on your life.
I think some people here drastically over exaggerate just how good they are at things.

Everyone I know is cake walking this game, I'm on Adept and I still haven't found anything better than Ebony (only a bow BTW) and I rarely one shot enemies unless I use a dagger to do x30 sneak attack.
This is on Adept difficulty...

I think how you play the game directly affects how you level. For example I have been playing for about 20 hours now and I just hit level 10 last night. I know I probobly could be higher but I spent a great deal of time talking to people, taking side quests and doing trade skill stuff etc.. If you just go out and "hunt" for example you can level up a lot faster. You can also level a lot faster if you follow the main quest, most of my friends who have been playing about the same amount of time are considerably farther ahead, one of my friends has almost finish the main story.

Its all relative, but I do believe their are ini file options for controling level pacing, you might want to look into that. I don't know much about it but I'm certain I read somewhere that their is a guage in their somewhere that can speed up or slow down leveling. Higher difficulty is also an option, though I find the game to be quite tough at the default level.

Also, I think you level faster if you focus hard on a very small selection of skills than if you use, let's say, 5-6 skills at once.

Make sure to stay away from the "Lover" stone near Markarth, learn all skills 15% faster.

The bonus from the Lover stone is noticeably lower than the more specialized Warrior, Mage and Thief ones though. I took it when I found it to give a better bonus to the handful of non-warrior skills I use regularly and the warrior skills that used to level up at a rapid pace now feel like they are leveling at half that speed.

Playing two different characters, one of whom has never leveled.
Oh, sure, he's earned the skills to do so, but simply trudges on at Lvl1 hunting elk, wolves and bandits.
He makes a living smithing and chopping wood with zero interest in the political on-goings of the province.
Though he does enjoy profiting off the gear of Legion and Stormcloak fallen, he heeds no call to participate.
He's a hoot!

Why level at all?
Seriously.
