EA Sells Old Games As New [merged topics]

Say what you will about IGN, but they just caught EA and ripped them a new one. One of the biggest publishers in this industry. This is frightening and disgusting.

"As it stands, EA is selling last year's game with some new skins and a new title to customers on Wii and Vita without properly explaining it. The publisher has also tried to dodge the inevitable controversy by failing to provide reviewers with copies of the game on these platforms. This is absolutely not acceptable practice, and it could easily be construed as lying to customers."

"Cynical cash-ins."

Yikes...

Well I can't really blame them. If people fall for that, good for EA.

Edit: that was harsh, rude, and maybe some more. I'm sorry.

I knew it wasn't just me who thought all FIFA are exactly the same game with team lineups updated.

How shady is it that they dodged IGN's request for comment? EA knows they're in the wrong big time and a MAJOR media outlet finally has come out and railed them.

They've been doing very nearly this with every sports game every year, just not so blatantly.

They come up with an occasional innovative gameplay change, but for the most part it's nothing more than a patch and DLC sold in a new package.

The thing is though, these actually ARE the same game. I don't think anyone who bought it deserves ridicule nor should you say "good for EA" because this is a giant scam. Since it's for the Wii and Vita, you can do whatever you want, right? And then to without copies for the reviewers? Just disgusting.

You can tell noone at EA plays videogames if they will stoop this low.

I doubt anything is going to happen to EA for this. Maybe they'll think twice next time just so that their public image doesn't degrade too fast, but other than that, if it makes profit who cares if it's moral or not when I can drown problems with money.

You are quite right, and I apologize for making ridicule, intentionally or not, of those who bought the game. But things like these happen so often, whether we notice or not, that I consider it standard business practice.

EA: We've been doing this for years, why is it an issue now? Did we not throw enough money at IGN this time?

When was the last time a company actually responded to a request for comment like this? It's not shady, they have no possible gains from commenting.

I also thought it was already fairly well known EA did this with sports games? If the consumers buy it I don't see what the issue is of them making it, if you don't like it you aren't forced to buy it.

Umm...I kind of don't see what the problem is. Madden 2012 is the same as 2013. NHL 2010 was the same as 11 as 12.....

I think it's time people stopped buying EA games instead of acting indignant on article comments.

I haven't played EA games in so long. This just encourages me to completely abandon their games.

Who is EA?

:poke:

I admit, I played the BF3 beta, but I stopped buying their games long ago. (No I am not suggesting I steal them either!!! I just don't play them anymore.)

Good, do so. It's the only way you'll hurt them.
