Sent support ticket to Sony

I doubt much will come of this, but meh, don't have much better to do now that Skryim is broken and I'm broke.

Hello, I recently purchased Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the PS3, and after I got about 40 hours into the game, it began to suffer from severe drops in framerate to the point where it is unplayable. I researched this online, and found that it is a widespread problem that occurs after you've gotten so far into the game.

This problem was evidently also in Bethesda's Fallout games, specifically in the DLC, so it is nothing new. I was wondering if Sony was aware that games were being sold for the console that were not able to be played to completion. This is a blatant rip-off of Sony's consumer base.

I own an Xbox 360, and a PS3. From now on I will probably be more likely to purchase multi-console games on the Xbox 360. The Elder Scrolls game does not have this issue on the 360.

Also, Bethesda has come out and said they are working on a patch to fix a texturing issue on the Xbox 360, and some performance issues on PC's, with no mention of the problems the PS3 version is suffering from.

I was just wondering if Sony was aware of this issue affecting your consumer base, and if there was anything you planned on doing about it. I wasted 60 dollars on a game which I cannot play through to completion. I cannot get a full refund on the game from Gamestop because I have opened it and played the game. The best I could do is trade it in for a partial refund. This is a blatant rip-off. There is no way Bethesda could have missed such a widespread game-ending glitch in their testing process.

Nice job. I think I might have to follow your footsteps and write my own complaint to Sony. Every thing you wrote was the truth. Is there anyway to get a refund from Bethesda? This product is horribly broken and I want a refund.

This is the way to go in my opinion.

I agree with this. Sony have the potential to stop tens of millions of dollars of gamesas's future revenue. If they will or not is a different story.

Beth are aware of the Lag/Stuttering issues on the PS3 version, they have stated that the issue lies with the memory cache as save file become larger and they have also stated that a fix has been produced and that it is with Sonys QA department.

This is from an email to Beth Customer Support:

They replied with they are aware of the issue and a patch is on the way, they went on to say that it is a problem with how the game is caching and retriveing game save data and the patch should fix it.

They also said they are awaiting SCEE to approve the hotfix.. so it looks like it's already on the way.
They advised me to re-install the game aswell, but of course i tried this and it doesn't help.

FWIW, Sony have never cared about the state of games on their platform and they have consistently displayed no interest in pleasing their customer base by taking their side and ensuring that developers/publishers bring usable titles to the PS3. It's harsh but don't waste your time chasing Sony about it, their usual line will be "It's not our problem, contact the game maker for support", thus burying their heads up their own arses. FYI, I've been down this road with Sony before.

Is that an email they sent directly to you? Or are you grabbing that from a source on the internet?

Someone posted a Beth Customer Support email on here yesterday, and it doesn't even say anything like that in the email. That's a little too fast for me to believe they have a patch waiting at Sony QA.

Interesting. I learned from the PSN outage, that the EU branch of Sony/Playstation does communicate a lot better to customers questions than the US branch. It just makes me wonder why Bethesda hasn't said anything officially. If they're aware of the issue and a patch has been sent to Sony QA, they should be shouting it from the rooftop to comfort the publics fears, but I still can't see a turn around for a fix that fast, unless the patch was sent right before the game's release. Bethesda has admitted before it does take up to 2 weeks for patch approval by both Sony and Microsoft.

Actually, Beth should do the opposite. ;) They should keep quiet about it until it passes Sony QA. Many other developers have announced that Patches/DLC/Updates are currently with QA only for them to be rejected. Those devs have then been crucified by the interweb for the further delays. It's worth noting that Sony QA for 3rd party studios can take up to 3 weeks, Sony IP studios however, can patch their games when they feel like it.

And, Yes, the EU forums rock, we have such a nice community team, friendly and involved. :celebration:
