Sentiment?

Post » Mon Sep 23, 2013 2:54 pm

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the place to be posting this, or if it is right for the general discussion, but here goes.

For all of you who have a sword, katana, axe or some kind of medieval weaponry, do you have sentiment for it? For me, my machete is my closest friend. I am also about to recieve a longsword and I can feel the bond already. It seems to be more than just inanimate steel. I don't know, maybe I am mad. Enyone else feel the same way?

I've got a lot of medieval weaponry as well, but the only ones I really have a bond with is my Machete, which I have had for like 8 years now and has seen a lot of miles. It's always right next to my bed incase someone breaks into my place in the middle of the night, as it is a scary looking machete too (it will make even the biggest [censored] look like a scary badass).

I am also partial towards my Riddike blades. (daggers that Riddike uses in chronicles of Riddike, the black curved ones). Now the blade itself isn't sharp and they aren't 'used' like my other things cus they aren't really meant for use, but the blades are long and slender, with a really, really, really [censored] sharp point on the end of them that hurts just to poke gently. So I also got those next to my bed as panic weapons. If you just swing wildly with those at someone attacking you, you're bound to take out an eye or something worse. And if you're a cold calculated badass mofo killer, one stab down into someone's shoulder/collar bone in the soft spot will kill them, as the blades are long enough to reach someone's heart from their neck/shoulder area where the soft skin is.

Despite being replicas, they are actually probably one of the more dangerous of the weapons I have.

For some reason, my first thought upon reading this was split between, "He's such a big Nord," and "He's so Nordy."

But OT, I have http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/01/36/58/48/0001365848485_500X500.jpg on me most of the time for protection and mainly for opening boxes and cutting twine, and I love it. I call it my Gerber Baby and it's gotten me out of a lot of frustrating debacles with packages.

I thought this thread was about sentient weapons. Oh well!

I don't have any weapons myself, but I have guitars that I really value, and I kind of feel that they're an extension of myself when I play them. Perhaps that's a similar feeling.

Too poor to afford such luxuries. Though it would be nice, having a couple daggers around.

I have three swords, used for different purposes, and given different names. Because they are all special to me.

A katana called Dark Sentinel. It is light, long, and a suitable weapon for self-defense (and an excellent watermelon cutter!), but I have to be especially careful when using it. It's the only sword I have that actually has an edge, so I have to treat it as the dangerous weapon that it is and keep it properly stored at all times.

Then there's Jagged Spark. It's plain-looking and kind of heavy and cumbersome, but that makes it suitable to fool around with and abuse. It's the only sword I can use to engage in pseudo-swordfights with (which just consist of both people hitting each other's swords). Its blade is nicked and dirty, but it's the one I have had the most fun with.

And a blued blade called Nightbringer. It looks very cool, it has a nice red-and-black leather hilt for suitable grip, and it's the lightest and most balanced blade in my collection. It's the most comfortable one to swing around with, but I dare not actually use it lest I ruin its good looks.

I also have a machete that could qualify as a rough fourth. It's nothing special, just something from Wal*Mart or something like that, but it was the first blade I ever got, so it holds a special place for me. The short length and dull blade means I can pull a few silly tricks with it, though, so it can be pretty fun to use.

I wouldn't necessarily describe it as sentiment, but I'm fond of my http://vometia.com/images/armoury/lelianassword2.jpg, or "Leliana's sword" as I tend to think of it. I sometimes think there are better ones to be fond of, especially as I have a couple of custom swords, but that thing is very "me", I suppose.

While I do have a vast array of cutlery, including swords, axes, survival knives, bowie knives, throwing knives, etc. http://assets-s3.mensjournal.com/img/essential/chefs-knife-showdown-miyabi-artisan-sg2-chefs-knife/618_348_chefs-knife-showdown-miyabi-artisan-sg2-chefs-knife.jpg, and http://lh5.ggpht.com/-jQWvZUxPIUs/TO19xKhPz_I/AAAAAAAAAHA/5aZRwQnAbxE/Messermeister-meridian-6in-chef-knife.png?imgmax=640 are the only knives I have a "connection" to.

I know how you feel, mate. I'm penniless. Be living in a cardboard box, I will :P Though, I'm not the legal age to be purchasing weapons...yet. One guy from my fencing school recently bought one over the internet, and brought it into training.

I have multiple swords (functional and wall hangers, sharp and dull), but I can't really say that I feel a 'bond' with any of them. I am fond of my ikazuchi, but I probably am closest to my Gerber multi-tool (with a small knife on it) that I carry with me everywhere. I'm kinda like MacGuyver. :hehe:

Anyone know how to lug a piano onto a sidewalk? :P

I'm not at the legal age either, so maybe I should stop my complaining and leave this thread. I know this is a redundant question, but how exactly do "Internet jobs" work? Because I need money and it's not like I'll get hired anywhere else.

I suppose I have some sort of attachement to my http://www.sog-knives.net/images/SOG-Spec-Elite-I-SE-14-600x480.jpg in that I'd be pissed if I lost it or broke it... I've been using it for 6 or 7 years now.

As for my sword, no not particularly.

I do develop attachments to some objects like my car but in the end I do remember it's simply an thing that can be replaced.

Stuff like my grandfathers old things I have more of an attachment to really as it's all I have to remember him by since he died when I was too young to remember much else.

Yeah, same. It's a nice little http://csimg.webmarchand.com/srv/FR/28012007102202/T/140x140/C/FFFFFF/url/couteau-de-poche-laguiole-2.jpg, very handy. Gift from my sister, who thought I'd like it - I do.

... Not really the same style.
