Serious Input Delays

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 2:52 pm

I started playing and went through several sessions without problems. Then, I loaded my save file and noticed that I was stuck at the loading screen for way longer than normal. When the game finally loaded every movement occurred about a half second after after I pressed the key. This delay occurs when using the mouse, gamepad, and keyboard. I have already tried starting a new character and reinstalling the game. I have also tried some of the commonly suggested edits to the 'ini' file. The delay is still crippling and the load times are out of control.

The machine I am using is an Alienware M17x that I just purchased in September, so it should be capable of playing the game considering that I had the graphics set to only medium.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas to fix it?

Help :(

Update:

I kept messing around (mostly hoping that the problem would magically fix itself) and found that I have no problems if I set the graphics to low (lame). I was hoping that my machine could handle it set higher considering that I was playing flawlessly on medium before.

Specs:
Processor - Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
RAM - 8.00 GB
System - 64-bit
Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

What do you think? I am new to PC gaming, so I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Have you noticed problems in any other games since Skyrim started malfunctioning?

If not, have you tried:
a) Use Steam to verify integrity of game files
B) full uninstall, and reinstall of Skyrim.

I appreciate the reply.

I don't currently own any games other than Skyrim, but I haven't noticed any other slow downs or instabilities with my system.

I did uninstall and reinstall Skyrim. Unfortunately it had no effect.

I am new to Steam. Can you explain how I would go about doing A?

I am currently trying to fix this exact problem... Dellxps15 (same computer, different name) and havnt had a chance to try what I've been told. But try lowering your resolution along with the ini files. I read a few minutes ago that turning mouse accelaration to 0 in skyrimprefs.ini will help.

Not very useful but hey, why not at least try?

You can improve the input by disabling vsync. You need to edit a config file to do that. Go to My Documents\My Games\Skyrim and open up skyrimprefs.cfg. Find the line that says iPresentInterval=1 and change it to iPresentInterval=1. Save the file and launch the game.

I found skyrimprefs.ini and changed the value from 1 to 0. Gave it a shot, but it made no difference.

Tried this one as well. Still no improvement.

I do appreciate the attempts though.

Problem solved. Apparently, my computer's two GPUs were alternating each time I first ran the game after restarting.

Someone gave me this link, which solves the problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zh4HCadTY_A

Did you turn On any AA setting in nvidia control panel? If you crank the settings up it will do this to the game, specifically ssaa above x4.
