Seriously am i the only one thinking this?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:54 am

Not only the main quest npcs are essential but also pretty much ANY npc involved in ANY quest! And i think its really lame that there is so many people i cant kill, oh look that guy has some nice armor ill kill his ass and claim his armor as my own. OH WAIT I CANT BECAUSE HE IS ESSENTIAL! Why the hell does he have to be essential. Morrowind and Oblivion i played on pc and i could turn essential npcs off but this time around i went for console since the game seems pretty catered to console. But its just so damn lame, i get disappointed all the time because of that lame feature. And now before you say they just yield and im stupid and all... No thats not it, cus i keep hitting them, burning them, [censored] them, but they dont go down, nope they just get all their health back and continue to attack.

As you can tell this issue really annoys me and i hope someone will make some kind of hack or similar, [censored] magic or something, to make it possible to disable it on the xbox.

Of all the criticisms, not being able to kill every single thing I can see ranks pretty low :)

Everything I've needed to kill, has been killable. (Not that I always succeeded... ;)) but getting annoyed because I cannot kill the Whiterun Jarl... nah :)

I've killed several NPCs that are part of quests though. And yeah, 199 doesn't sound that dangerously high anyways, compared to previous Skyrim is mashed full of important characters.

This is mildly irritating for me too,
All i wanted to do was kill some shop keeper guy who was annoying me, so i snuck in later, stole all there [censored], and went to go finish the job and they were flaming invincible! so annoyed. :(

You switched to console from PC and are complaining about something that can be corrected on PC.

I hope you learned your lesson.

The average Bethesda customer doesn't like consequences. Either that or Bethesda just can't be arsed altering scripts to allow for essential NPC deaths. Probably a bit of both but mostly the former. Another step away from their old game design principles.

Well I found it was a pain to kill someone and then later find out that you can't finish some important quest because of it. Hardly a realistic "consequence", breaking an entire quest line because you killed one random guy. Anyway I'm sure there will be a mod for this for people who must kill everyone. Can you kill them after you've done their quest I wonder?

Yeah I tried killing some of the thieves guild, trying to bring some peace to Riften. The Black Briar's too, but no dice. They're all invincible

Well, the other extreme is this:

Turn up at a town, get attacked by dragon, shoot at it with bow, and a chicken runs over the bridge I am using as cover towards the dragon, and gets killed by my arrow.

Got me shot up by the guards as well as the dragon, and cost me 1045 gold bounty.

Go play GTA or something if you want to just kill everything in sight. This is a damn rpg. There's a bit more to this game then killing everybody. Ridiculous thing to post.

Well, since I′m playing a Good Character, I′m not having such a big problem with that issue yet. But I have to admit that it was a huge problem at Riften.

Light Spoilers

Spoiler
When I first arrived there, the whole city was complaining about how their lives where miserable because of the Thieves Guild. So I though that my Character could go and deal with them to "save" the people of Riften. But when I got to the High Ranks of the Guild, no member would ever die. They would just kneel for a minute and then stand up with full health again. It was quite annoying.

Umm.. the fact its an RPG means he should be able to kill everyone if he wants. Do you even have a clue what RPG stands for?

I'm saying there's a reason you can't kill some people...............cause there's a story. If you get this game just to go kill everything you see then you don't know how to play an rpg.

A hell of a lot of work if anyone is going to attempt to provide real consequences for NPC deaths. More likely there will be a 2 minute mod that sets them all 'non-essential' and if they die it breaks the quest.

It's not an easy one to fix.

This is a sandbox game and as such we should be able to kill who we want and have deal with the consequences. This is a continuation of the hand holding that got many of us so worked up over Oblivion.

What if I want to role play a homicidal maniac? What if I want to role play someone who isn't the Dovahkiin? Seems to me like you're the one who doesn't know how to play an rpg.

I would think someone that doesn't want their experience to be too "controlled" by the developer, would choose the pc version over a console version. It seems to me that you forgot about that when making that choice and now you're pissed when you mainly got yourself to blame for that.

Did you bother to check what you could or couldn't do without mods, before buying, to see if you could get the kind of experience you were looking for, on that platform?

By saying you could have bought the pc version, I don't see how your anger towards the developer is justified when it was your decision to go for a less customizable experience.
