ShakingShutteringTwitching Character Models.

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 6:23 am

I have been searching for a solution to my problem for a few days now. Most NPCs bodies, are shaking. Usually their legs, which is odd. And every time I kill something, the dead body starts twitching around and the graphics for the arm or leg will stretch all over the screen and kind of flicker. Even when you kill something and it kind of goes to mini cutscene, the character models are out of place and my toon will stab the air. I have searched many times all over the place with only 2 similar stories. I was really hoping you guys could help me.

I have the link below so maybe you can understand what they are saying better than I can.

http://www.reddit.com/r/SkyrimHelp/comments/mmhiz/pc_shutteringshaking_bodies_before_crash/

^I ran a scandisk and it did not help at all. Upon deleting the folder Skyrim would not even run. So i can't do that.

And of course before you ask:

This is a legit copy.
My video card is an ATI Radeon 4800 serious, windows 7. All up to date drivers, plenty of ram and disk space. No over heating problems ect.
I have reinstalled 7+ times now.
Ran Scandisk 3 times, probably more by the time you read this.
Ran diskdefragments, disk cleanups.
And many other stupid things to try to make it work.

Please any assistance would be great. I really want to play this game.

I eventually encounter this when I OC the bus (bclk). The higher I go toward 200 over 133 the more horrendous it is when it occurs. In my case the entire world goes ape-[censored], invisible bounding boxes offset from their visual representation, objects (including NPC) sliding at angles, signs hanging at angles, everything twitching / bouncing / banging / flipping / chunks of messh missing appearing disappearing etc etc.

Still can't say for certain it is related since there are a ton of folks that OC, including bus not just multipliers, that report not seeing the problem.

Here though so far this is the closest relation I can figure out and resetting to stock bus (but retaining mults sticking in the 4G range) always, without fail, resolves the problem here.

I've started another char from scratch for both RP and also testing eventually. Currently running stock bus and seeing no issues like this. Going to progress the char for awhile and see if the issue ever happens again.

Then I'll OC the bus again, reload way back near the start and do it again and see if the world starts to go ape-[censored] again.

a defrag or scandisk will hardly ever solve anything related to a graphical error.

is v-sync on or off while playing? are you getting more than 60 fps?

EDIT
hmm, cant imagine how an overclock would cause a problem like this, perhaps just instability?

even if its not OC'ed i would try lowering lock speeds of the gpu and cpu and test it again, if thats whats causing it it could be stability issues

Yeah I know it's a leap, but because I see the game doing things like item weights changing from 10 to 9.999999 to 10 while just looking at them when it's happening it makes me wonder if they've got precision / math errors somewhere in the way they calc stuff.

Already went through extreme stability testing a number of times that's the 1st thing I considered of course. Can slam / crush the system (CPU / GPU / RAM) with zero issue.

Still not convinced in any way that the OC is the cause, but at the moment it seems related no matter how big a stretch the concept is. We'll see.

i would have to agree with a calculation error based on the item weight fluctuation.

v-sync is on isnt it?

alot of the games mechanics are tied directly to the fps (time physics and vertical input) but im wondering what the hell these idiots could have tied to the actual calculations of basic things like weight skills and damage..wait, why the [censored] would they make weight have a [censored] calulation? 10 lbs is 10 [censored] lbs, why would it need calulation? does anything in the game effect the weight of the items? like a skill or perk to cause items to weight less or more?

the more i look at the game the more im disgusted with the amount of stupidity in sheer complexity they went through for basic crap...

im stumped...

oh well time to blame bethesda again for the shoddy porting job

Yeah I run with their iPresentInterval default of 1 since I despise screen tear and since having it off can cause game issues / day breaker, I just use the games version and not forced in CP. Not sure if OP does. I'll re-read his post.

Exactly, and along these lines, imagine how much performance-eating HOG-ass cycles are chewed over things that don't need to be done. With this in mind it makes me wonder, say, when entering a City, maybe every object loaded within the players envelope is being calculated constantly. That would certainly explain FPS going in the toilet, although one would expect the CPU usage to just peak out max if that were actually true and what's being reported is a lack of large CPU usage during these moments.

yeah i dont like screen tearing, but i hate input delay even more, v-syn makes my wrist hurt trying to compensate for the sluggish movement, its like trying to play while wearing a cast, just uncomfortable to me.

Oh and for max clarity, when I see the weight fluxuate from 10... 9.999999....10...10... it's an item that's on the ground I'm looking at just standing there, not in my inventory nor possesion. So even if there are / were things that affect weight, it sure wouldn't affect something I don't have in my inventory or on me, or near me, unless there are some really brain-damaged code branches.

Still no fix.

Ive upgraded my graphics card to an ati radeon 6870, disabled the V sync in prefs, Instead of installing from disk i downloaded it from steam. Made sure all cores were working. I have updated windows/drivers everything. Disabled anti virus. Um, I have ran scan disks, disk cleanups, disk defrags.

I have pretty much done everything I can. Please any more help is greatly appreciated.

I give up. Im just going to uninstall and throw the game out. It's too frustrating. I wasted my money on the game and upgrading my video card. I play other games too and have never had this problem. Even have Fall out New Vegas installed. Nothing. Oh well.
