I am trying to speak with Urag to return the writing of the archmage so he can translate them but when I go to do so all he says is "Do you think Ancano knew all along what the eye was capable of?"

What should I do?

Drop the book and pick it up again. Sometimes that works.

If it gives you the "quest item can't be dropped" message, try putting it in a bookcase.

I can't drop it or put it in a bookcase. In either case I can't remove it from my inventory.

Open your console with the ~ key. Type in the following

player.drop base_id 1

in the place of base_id use the code for the book you need to turn in. For a list of the item codes, search here:

This will cause the book to drop from your inventory regardless if it is a quest item or not. Then simply pick the book up and see if this fixes your issue. If you need help finding the book ID, reply with the name of the book and I'll dig in the list as well. I had a similar problem when trying to turn in the Hanging Gardens book.

The book I am talking about is called "Shalidor's Insights" and I can't find it on that list.

Update: Ok I found the ID for the book. It is 000C1E78.

Alright, try this.. Open up your console again and type in this line

setstage MGR21 20

this will set the stage of the quest to turn in. Attempt to complete the quest again.

If that doesn't work, the last thing i can suggest is this: Open the console, click on Urag, and type disable. Close the console and then immediately open it again. Click on urag, and type enable. That should reset whatever is wrong with him.

I myself have a book called Remanada, it is a book required for Urag's Book quest (it's one of the three books he asks for I believe). I picked it up before I got the quest and now I can't progress with him. I can't find Remanada in the list either...

Enabling and disabling Urag doesn't resolve the issue either... *sigh*

The ID for Remanada is 0001AD14
That's the exact same thing that happened with Hanging Gardens, I picked up the book before I got the quest. Drop it, then pick it back up and it should update to turn in.

player.drop 0001AD14 1

You can't manually set the quest ahead to turn in? enabling and disabling didn't help? Hmm.. what about setting the ID to completed and moving on? you'll lose out on the reward, but it's not all that great anyways.

setstage MGR21 200 will cause the quest to complete itself. then just remove the book.

If you want the reward, you'll gain three of the same scrolls from the following list. The ID code is next to them.
Shalidor's Insights: Alteration 001076e9
Shalidor's Insights: Conjuration 001076eb
Shalidor's Insights: Destruction 001076e7
Shalidor's Insights: Illusion 001076e8
Shalidor's Insights: Magicka 001076ec
Shalidor's Insights: Restoration 001076ea

So you can just type"
player.additem "scroll ID you want" 3
That'll complete the quest and give you the reward. Let me know if this solves your problem or the workaround suffices for you.

I have another quest under Miscellaneous that says "Return the book to Urag Gro-Shub". Is there a command to fix that one too?

Generally they are different quest ID's. Do you know the name of the quest?

That is all it says. In the quest log I go to "Miscellaneous -> Return the book to Urag Gro-Shub"

Try MGR21b. If that does not work it may be a radiant quest that has a different code. I found the code on UESP.NET but cannot remember it.

Alternatively, you can do some digging with the following console commands.

GetStage "quest id" - Used to get the current quest stage for given quest ID (use command ShowQuestTargets for IDs).
player.sqs "quest id" - Used to display all the stages of a quest
SetStage "quest id" "stage value" - Used to set the quest stage (Useful for bugged quests) use command ShowQuestTargets for quest IDs and player.sqs to show how many stages are there (note that you have set the stage one at a time in order to get its effect.)
