Enchant stamina regen or stamina cost... then you can constantly bash with your shield, which is basically god mode.

Heavy armor, invest most of your level up attr. points into Stamina, enchant armor with stamina or health, whichever you feel you need the most. Sword and Board is a very strong build and relatively easy to play.

If you're planning to use a shield, you're planning to tank damage. Therefore, heavy armor is likely better than light armor. It's what I would use, at any rate.

I use light armor and a heavy shield. Works just fine. I take little to no damage and the Stam regen is really the best part about it.

Smithing all the right side until dragon
Heavy armor to the right for more armor (will not put 5 perk pts on juggernaut i think i can cap armor rating without the 5 pts)
Block i max all :D
1h armsman max, then went fighting stance, savage strike and i went with maces (bone breaker)
Enchanting all the middle perks and fire enchanter since im also enchanting mace with fiery soul :3

atm i have pts in 1h and shield mainly, 2 in resto and 1 in heavy armor, later most likely ill go smith/enchanter, finish resto and then alteration to get more armor if needed and absorb/resist magic :P

Paladin style ^_^!

I'd choose your armor based on what you think looks best, because they're very nearly equivalent once you perk them out, smith them, and hit a high enough level. Keep in mind that the ebony armor (not the ebony mail) has an ugly graphical glitch around the neck area on male characters, too.

Light armor would allow you to remain more mobile in the early game, which (imo) would be a greater benefit than a few extra points of armor rating given that you're planning to use a shield to further cut damage anyway. Light armor is a bit cheaper in terms of perks and a bit easier in terms of perk skill requirements, too.

The right-hand branch of the smithing tree gives you better weapons, but (imo) the best-looking heavy armor is in the left-hand branch anyway, and the advantages of the better weapons are eclipsed by the benefits of smithing anyway (for example, a fully-smithed elven sword is only really fractionally less powerful than a fully-smithed daedric sword).

If you weren't planning to take smithing at all, it's a different ballgame, but I'd still opt for light armor given that you're using a shield.

I find the extra stamina from using light armor is really helpful. I can use power attacks and power bashes more frequently. I hardly get hit anyway, my shield is my best friend.

Heavy armor. I tried with light armor and 1v1 was actually better than with heavy as you have more stamind BUT in 1vX fights, you get smashed as you can't block them all and do damage at the same time, so they just overcome you.

Enchant your weapon with fire cause you will be doing much lower damage with this setup and it may become annoying from a point on. I was level 12 and doing the Companions quest to fight some Silver Hand guys. Some of them had tons of stamina and I was hitting them like a punching bag, with small damage.

Heavy Armor. One reason is the "Tower of Strength" perk, making you get staggered 50% less while in all Heavy Armor. Can't block or attack when you're staggered, after all.
