[req] Shield on back

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 2:19 pm

it's exactly what it sounds.

the functionality is fairly simple -
if you equip a shield and sheath it than the shield replaces the quiver.
once u draw the weapons the quiver is either stil missing or pop up again (though i think it's better if it will remain off).

when you switch back to bow and arrow the quiver re-appears.

more elaborate settings would be that if u switch from a shield to a 2H weapon than since the shield was last used he will be placed on back along with the 2H weapon. if you use a bow than the quiver will appear and if u switch from a bow to a 2H weapon then the quiver will remain.

The shield on back mod from oblivion was really cool. it just doesnt make sense to carry a shield on your hand when you just run and walk around. these things weight about 15 pounds....

anyone thinks he might pick up the gauntlet?

Love your idea. I had the oblivion mod for this, but i deleted it after a time, because it bloated my savegames until my game crashed.

I'm gussing the best solution would be to make the shield replace the quiver and make the quiver accessable only with bow equipped.

not sure if "best" but probably the easiest.
modders already changed the location of quivers and swords on the back. is it that hard to do the same for shields?

This was a very nice feature of UV II, something along side this I would like to see/req (not to highjack your thread) is your sward sheathed regardless of weather your using it of not, so if your duel wielding with spells your sword would still be visible on your back of on your side.

There was a piece of Skyrim concept art that I always loved: http://www.gamersheaven6.com/files/attach/images/106664/568/116/485913b495871cb5ca1d2fe23cb18f4e.jpg

The closer we can get to that, the happier I am!

I'm no Blender monkey, but can I assume that shields are attached to your arm because you associated the shield to that bone? It may be possible to reassign which bone to "attach" to on the biped skeleton during the idle/walk/run animation? Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Squidbear!

But that seems like about right I guess. I know next to nothing about modeling and animations though.
I think that the biggest problem would be an animation getting it off your back in combat situations.

Shield should have never been on the arm in the first place tbh, looked awful in oblivion and looks awful in skyrim... support this idea 100%

agreed. its fine if you are in the middle of combat but why on earth would a warrior keep this heavy thing on his hand.

come on, modders. pick up the gauntlet.....

On the other hand having your shield constantly on your forearm, is like being always ready for attack - it fits well with current state where all character's go to sleep in armors and magic robes.
First mod would have to make it reasonable to change into normal clothes while in the city, cause I don't see why anybody would want to put their shield out of reach when out in the middle of dangerous dungeon.

Hi all,

if properly arranged grabbing your shield from the back when melee attacked takes no time of practical importance. If shot at, doesn`t matter where your shield is, UNLESS when shot in the back where the shield happens to be.
I`d also love to have side quivers with shield and bow on the back. Not to speak abt. both dual-wield weapons visible. Just dreaming...

why do you shealth your weapon? cuz you are NOT in combat. same reason with the shield. you have two states in skyrim - ready to cut limbs and casual. the casual look looks weird when the shield is on your hand.

i actually thought this mod would pop up pretty close to game release. thought it's a simple matter of replacing the quiver model with the shield model under specific circumstances, but i assume it isnt that simple.

Another combination I would like to see would be your bow and quiver remaining on your back while a sword is "equipped" at your side. Then when you switch to the bow, the sword still stays on your belt. My ranger character would like this

Sure, why not. Though I can't help but wonder how long it would take to get a shield off your back and ready to block a swing, most games make it instant and that just seems silly. So if done somewhat realistically it seem like a wonderful idea.

You shealth your sword or an axe so it wouldn't be ruined by weather - snow or rain. If we want to be more realistic then player should clean his sword/axe after shealthing it if he killed someone - that blood is going to rust that weapon to dust.

Sword in hand tells people you're ready to spill blood, while just wearing armor, in which case drawn shield, just means you're a warrior adventure passing by to get some supplies. Shild is consider to be part of the armor and that's why it adds to armor rating.

Anyway, in case of this mod happening the shield should always replace the quiver, cause I don't like the idea that a dual welding warrior* shouldn't carry quiver if he doesn't have a bow on his back - it looks as if he forgot it.

the "armed to the teeth" mod tries to keep equipment on at all times but apparently it requires new equipment to include extra data so the game will know to categorize it as "reserve" so it can be left on the player even when not equipped. i wonder if it's such a hassle with a shield on back mod too.

Only problem with this is that it wont affect new modded shields.

There are videos on the "armed to the teeth" nexus page that show how to add modded items. He's just added staves so hopefully shields will be soon
