The BBC says that 10 have been shot dead and 4 have died of their injuries whilst 50 have been injured.

Fingers crossed that no one else dies and that they catch this guy ASAP.

They've got him. 'Police are saying there was "no evidence" of a second gunmen. They have one person in custody.'

Been watching this on Sky News. Apparently he didn't even say anything, just walked up the aisle shooting random people. Crazy.

...a horrible event to be sure. Meanwhile thousands die of starvation across the globe and children are used as soldiers and learn to do such things as the shooter in this event does. I guess because it occured in the US it is thus more tragic and more news worthy then right? (sigh) I probably shouldn't be THAT guy but well I was.

The very manner in which news is reported dictates that they report on noteworthy events. Since people have been starving for the entire history of the human race it doesn't get reported on unless something noteworthy like a large scale famine take place. Its not everyday that somebody dresses up in a gasmask, riothelmet and body armour then proceeds to shoot into an audience at a screening of Batman which is why its being reported on.

14 dead, at least 50 injured in shooting at Colorado movie theater, police say

The violent and chaotic scene erupted about 12:30 a.m. MDT as a gunman stood at the front of one of the Century 16 theaters at the Aurora Mall where the movie "The was playing, police said.
"Witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister. They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire," Oates said at a news conference.

inb4 gun laws. Actually, that is what I think. Wouldn't happen in my country. Of course it wouldn't, there are only 6 potential people who could die.


There's always one. Always. By that logic we should report nothing because there's always a story out there which is worse than the reported one. What you said, while true, is irrelevant really.

Long term news gets reported in the form of documentaries or special news stories as, generally, the problem doesn't go away. Unexpected or sudden events are reported at the time they occur.

I'm really terrified at the thought that someone in that theater was filming the movie, intending to upload it to the internet soon after, and instead filmed this. I hope nobody was because even if it was dark, the sounds of the attack would be horrific.
