shooting through walls

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:25 am

i was wondering if anyone new if we would be able to shoot through some walls, because in fallout 3 i didn't like it how the smallest thing would stop your bullet. I dont want to be able to shoot through all walls like because then it would start to turn into COD but i hope we will be able to shoot through thin wooden barriers and other things of that nature.

PS in fallout 3 you couldnt shoot at things that were underwater, will that be changed. and no matter what the answer is i'll still get this game.

You try getting an accurate hit at something underwater then reply back.

Very true, And high velocity rounds like .50 BMG will completely disintegrate as soon as it hits the surface of the water.

It's more like trying to shoot through a forcefield in Dune.

What, immensely more successful than using a laser weapon?

I don't really see the need for being able to fire through certain surfaces in NV. What would be far more useful, is for VATS to have a mechanic where it will stop if your LoF has an obstruction in front of it that isn't a viable target i.e. random piece of rubble that somehow has an extra four/five inches of clipping that it shouldn't have.

Yeah bullet penetration would be nice. Just through stuff like thin sheets of metal.
And people are talking about how shooting through water is impossible. But if something is just under the surface, surely it could take damage, just at a reduced amount? Because bullets seem to be able to travel a couple of metres before they fully lose velocity through water.

What would be even simpler than that would be if VATS had a mechanic where you could just manually stop it yourself.

Edit: Also, I don't understand what whack-a-mole shooters (like Gears of War, ME2, Uncharted 2) get a free ride with the indestructible impenetrable walls while Fallout has to give the player a wall hack. I guess that Fallout 3 wasn't easy enough (really guys, really?).

They tried in Mythbusters with a low-caliber rifle to a shotgun to a .50 cal. They had targets at various ranges under the water, no one was really that far away, maybe the furthest one was a meter or so away. No weapon made it to the last target, most of them actually just hit the first target or none at all but the bullet just split in many many pieces that they could pick up from the bottom of the swimming pool.

Ah righto. I think it's all the movies and games that I've seen that had bullets sizzling through water for like 10 metres that had me think otherwise.

Shooting water is like shooting concrete.

depends on the angle that the bullets hit the water

yeah did you see the first part of the episode where they shot straight down into the water with the shotgun and pistol. it [censored] their tank up. it depends on the angle at which your shooting at the water. those test at the pool they did where at such a low angle the bullets stood no chance. if you where shooting at something from a bridge it would be a much steeper angle and it would be much more effective

Yeah, I just remembered that, the shotgun was deadly to three meters, broke the tank completly. They also tried shooting under waster, shotgun blew up, garand bullet dropped like 1-2 meters away but the pistols were deadly up to three meters atleast!

If its under water use a grenade, but in reality just the concussion of it going off would kill or put in serious pain. and if we could shoot thru thin stuff then people in ramshackle towns like megaton could be massacred from outside their homes and thats no fun for me, I say clean up the edges of the scenery and forget about anything underwater.

I like this idea. You know whenever you are using VATS on someone/thing and they move behind a wall. Why do you keep shooting? Its waste of ammo and VATS, not to mention just annoying.

i think we should just wait till bethesda makes a new game engine, because it wont work well with the current engine i dont know, i could be wrong
but when and if they make a new game engine , not only should we be able to shoot through thin metal and wood, but just think of a plasma rifle melting through the metal and buring the wood that would be cool, but not for a long time

and for guns shooting water if its a high caliber round like the 308 they just break apart just under the surface and on mythbusters they shot a 50.cal it didnt make it more that a foot, the most they got was either a 45. or 9mm but they had no stopping power so, if your getting shot at dive into lake, its not what you see in the movies where the rounds are just going through the water
