Shop/Merchant Inventories do not reset.

Post » Tue Feb 22, 2011 5:06 am

All of the shops in my game are stuck with the same inventories, apparently indefinitely. Each one has the same set of weapons/ammo/etc. that they had when I first visited. I've tried sleeping and waiting for 72, 216, and 288 hours. I've even restarted my computer and started new files. Each time the inventories stay stuck the way they were when I first visit the shop- what can I do? I've run out of ideas and I assume this isn't intended behavior.

Odd.

Using mods maybe? If so list them.

I've had the same issue as well. Trudy's shop has been empty now for god knows how long.

The only "mod" I use is the d3d9.dll fix.

Can't say I've had this problem, except for one of the travelling merchants hanging around Novac, who seems to still have the same crap he had, plus the stuff I sold him the last time we met, which is days ago.
I'll see if he resets when I wait a few days elsewhere. All other merchants seem to be resetting ok.

I've had a different merchant issue, though, a number of times: not being given the item I bought, but still having the caps taken from me.
For example, I was at the gun runners, and I decided to bite the bullet and buy Recon Armour. (I was feeling silly running around in a space suit. That thing gets hot in the desert...)
The vendertron had two of them, each under the 50% damage threshold, so I decided to buy both and repair them together.
I buffed up my barter as much as possible, but still shelled out 4000+ caps (I had ~6k at the time).
Then I switched gear, read a repair mag and went to ... oh... why do I only have 1 recon armour?
Did I forget to buy the other? Hmmm... nope, only 2k caps left...
besides I distinctly remember picking both recons, gritting my teeth and clicking Accept...
ok check the vendor... Bugger! There's a recon armour... wait... wtf? it's 100%?

I also had a similar experience with Blake in the crimson caravan - bought something expensive, can't remember what, paid the caps but didn't get the goods.
I noticed it before, but can't remember the merchant as I just shrugged and chalked it up as a one-off glitch at the time.

RPGed it as being ripped off by a shady dealer... even chuckeld (briefly) at being caught be the old 'bait and switch' . "Can I sell you an Eiffel tower, m'sieur?" :deal: :whistling:

So there definitely seems to be something very fishy with the barter mechanism in FONV. I never had any of these problems in FO3. Never got robbed, and they always reset as expected.

I've had this happen with a few weapons. The items are actually in your inventory, which you can see with the showinventory command. The issue is that some items seem to "stack"- you will only see one in your inventory, but if you drop it, you'll have another. And they are different items, I had this happen with two Grenade Rifles. The first I had upgraded with the extended barrel. I bought the second from Cliff Briscoe, and it promptly disappeared upon entering my inventory. I dropped the upgraded one later and found the one from Cliff had been there all along.

Back to the issue of shop inventory, does anyone know if there is a console command that will reset the shops? I feel like there has to be one that's supposed to run every 3 days or so, and it's not working right, so the shops aren't resetting.

I was fine until I visited Sergeant Daniel Contreras at McCarran. Ever since visiting him all the merchant's inventorys don't change. This could be coincidental though as I've only done it once and haven't tried to repeat it with another character.

I've noticed that merchants and caravans still have junk I've sold to them a long time ago, but they are getting new things and their caps restock.

Yeah every caravan/merchant I've sold to still has the same sold items past the 72 hour reset.

Gun Runners stock definitely changes.

Chet in Goodsprings and every Caravan I've encountered have not reset their inventories.

I've been noticing this problem for a while now. Seems if i restart the game while in the vicinity of any NPC I have this issue with, it'll restock their inventory. Just tested a few times on Chet, Johnson Nash, Lacey and Cliff; their inventories restocked with different items and amount of caps on every restart.

That's good to know. Thanks, Natoz! I'll try that.

I can confirm that sometimes, weapons and armor with an identical level of repair get stacked. You'd say that when you click on repair in this recon armor situation, you would still get to repair the first armor with the second from the repair screen.

As with the merchants not refreshing. With all i've read so far, my conclusion is that the traders only get new inventory after you've gained a couple of levels. That would be logical with what i experienced, since i was getting lots of new stuff from merchants on the low levels, and now, around level 13, its stuck. I will also try saving standing next to a merchant, quiting and restarting and see if that helps.

You have to leave the area for them to refresh inventory. Waiting doesn't work if you're standing next to them.

I've tried waiting next to the merchant and in another area. Neither case caused their inventory to change. I think that maybe that Dissipate is right, as a few of the merchants have added 1-2 higher level guns to their inventory since I reached level 12. However, the items I've sold them are still there and the amount of caps they have is still depleted.

Have you tried restarting your game while near or in the same building as these merchants (save first of course!)? Still works every time for me, and I can even take advantage of it and just keep restarting until they have something I need in stock, or just more caps :P.

I have saved right before talking to a caravan merchant and had their inventory change each time I reloaded the game. The first time I reached the Mojave Outpost, there was a caravan merchant outside. I quicksaved, went to barter with him and he had a reinforced leather armor at just over 50% condition. I only had regular leather armor at the time, and just enough caps to buy it with some junk to trade in. After the transaction I remembered that I had a barter skill magazine that I could have used. I reloaded the quick save, but now he didn't have it. I reloaded the quick save again and this time he had a reinforced leather armor at 100%, but I couldn't afford it. It took several reloads, each time his inventory was different, but I finally got the reinforced leather armor that was there the first time.

There's definitely some issues with item restocking sometimes. I've played through the entire game twice now and not once has Gloria Van Graff in the Silver Rush ever got re-stocked, but oddly enough that's the only merchant i've had that trouble with. Maybe she doesn't like me robbing the entire place with a Stealth Boy.
