Should we be able to skip the opening?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 8:48 pm

So, I am very into Skyrim, but there are a few things that irk me. When I decide to restart with a new build, I have to go through the opening sequence. And let me tell you, the opening gets very boring after restarting a healthy amount of times. So what if we could skip it? What if we could have the option to skip the opening, and simply get thrown in as soon as you leave the cave under the Helgen keep? I know that the character creation setup can be accessed anytime with a PC console command, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to move it to after escaping Helgen for those who wish to skip the opening. So tell me, is this a good idea?

One of the earliest and plain mods that PC users likely enjoyed. Why not just patch it so that, like in Oblivion, you edit your character before entering the overworld so that players can save before that point?

I think this would be great for people who would like to roleplay without being the Dragonborn. If this were the case, that would be fantastic.

A generic early point save right before Hadvar asks who you are is the easiest solution. Or just do what I have done and mute your TV and eat a sandwich.

I say sure. I for one would still go though it each time since I enjoy them but no need to force others to.

I've done that actually, excluding the sammich part, but I would enjoy it more if you could have the option to start outside of the Helgen dungeon.

Hmmm. In Dead Island once you've completed the prologue once, it gives you the option to skip it for future characters you create.

So it's not a bad idea, IMO. Especially for Roleplay.

Or for people that hate doing the intro every time. Such as myself

An autosave is created a few seconds before you enter Character Generation - when you're off the carriage and Hadvar is calling out the prisoners names. Don't save over they autosave, and when you want to start a new character, just load it up. Cutscene skipped!

We're talking the whole "tutorial". As soon as we leave the cave, there should be an edit race menu. That'd be perfect

I think (for the xbox at least) some heavy caching is going on during the carriage ride. I did the generic save before you select race. Decided to start a new character about a month afterwards and it had a REALLY hard time loading up the race select screen. It did it after like 3 minutes or something.

Ah. What would TES be without a starter dungeon? Minus Morrowind of course.

Why don't you try the Alternative Life mod. It allows you to start in a wide variety of areas. It also adds a lot of excellent role playing scenarios.

Yes there should. I use an alternate start mod now, and usually select the beginning that starts just outside Helgen :lmao:

Ha! I done that as well. I still do when I play on the Xbox. Now that I have it for PC, I only use the Xbox to plan for the incredibly slim chance, I am granted the opportunity to Beta.

Yes. I am surprised and disappointed that there is no option to do so as you exit the cave. I know you have a choice of who to go with before entering the keep and it is save only a few minutes before that. So, they probably said..."This is it."
