I got Skyrim on release date (ps3) and my experience was great so far until, like many others in this forum, the more I play the more I notice things like fps drops, delayed reaction on controls, etc (which totally ruins the immersion aspect for me). My first impression of "Wow, this game is incredible!" is quickly turning into "Uh oh, I hope this doesn't turn into a lagfest".
I'm the type of person that likes to stick with one character, and nothing beats the feeling of discovering and exploring uncharted territories for the first time. So, if they do come out with a patch that resolves the issues of fps, lag, etc. Do you think it will apply to our current characters already in the game? (is it possible) or Will we have to 'start from scratch' for the fix to take effect.
Skyrim is such an amazing game, I would hate to ruin my experience of continuing my character only to have to start fresh again once a patch is released. Cause discovering things and clearing dungeons probably won't have the same effect the second time around. So should I wait? or just keep playing in hopes that our current characters can be salvaged?
Thoughts?

after a few hours of playing I start to notice a slight difference in fps, still playable (I can only assume it will get worse the farther I go in-game. as im kinda taking things slow)
