This can give you some idea .. This is my build now ,
Basically , I spent in total $1305

Intel i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz : $230
Cooler Master V6 GT : $ 60
MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC : $ 250
MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) LGA 1155 : $ 180
G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL7D-4GBXM : $60
Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply : $ 70 ( From first build )
Cooler Master CM690 ATX Mid-Tower Case $ 90 (From first build)
Microsoft - Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 : $ 25 ( From first build)
Blue Hardrive 320 Gb : $ 40 ( From first build)
** Extras **
Viewsonic VX2250wm-LED 22" Widescreen LED Monitor : $ 150
Logitech X-540 5.1 Speaker System : $ 80
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music : $70
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I built a cheap system for my sister . I just bought:
CPU: AMD Phenom II 955 : $ 140 @ 3.5Ghz stock cooler
Graphic card: GTX 460 : $ 160
Motherboard: M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 : $100 ( New egg ftw)
RAM: GSkill 4GB DDR3 : $60

We had the rest of hardware needed , so It was only $460

Tips:
- If you have already some useful components , like PSU , Tower Case , Keyboard&Mice , Hard Drive , Memory Ram etc you can save a lot money . Just focus on what you really need .
- For CPU i suggest at least a Quad Core @ 3.0 Ghz , because if you get a dual core you will regret it , some games are becoming multi-threading.
- Get a MB with DD3 support , DDR2 is really old now.
- Get a GOOD videocard , remember PC Gaming needs a powerful one unless you want to play at low settings @1024x800..
- I suggest AMD 6850 , GTX 460 and up, they are kinda cheap now and they have a good performance. I dont think a $100 graphic card will be enough for a long time.
-Be sure your Power Supply is good enough to handle all your components with no problems.
- Some MB are compatible with high-end CPU's and new ones. AMD motherboards are very known by this . and Intel is really hated by this ..
- You should wait for Bulldozer and see the price war.
- Some people can give you more tips because I only mentioned the basic.

Building your machine is a enjoyable experience only if you know what are you doing. At some point , you will care about your system a lot , that your wife/girlfriend will get jealous lol

and yea sorry for my grammar :P

Only if you want to play really good video games. If you like flat no textured simple lighting effect pixelated games then stay on the xbox.
Ok seriously put it this way. The very day a new console is launched, thats as good as its going to be for the next 5 to 6 years! Sure programmers will figure out ways to get creative and squeeze more juice out of it and games look better down the road but not much really. Not compared to a pc, which you can upgrade almost as often as you can afford to do so.

So from all the posts I can see here, he should switch to pc gaming because the parts are expencive? I have a pc and I regret spending $1000 on it. Consoles can still pull nice graphics at a good frame rate because of what devs can do. PC gaming was dead after the first crysis came out, theres no more games left for it exept for RTS games and MMO's which are the most boring games ever created.

Rage at me all you like go ahead, you stupid meat-headed pc leetists. "I SPENT $5000 ON MY EPIC NEW RIG MAN, ITS CPU CLOCK IS LIKE 5GHZ OMG. I GOT THESE NEW VIDEO CARDS SLI'D IM SOO COOL." Seriously get a life, your like nerd body builders having a 'who has the biggest computer muscles' contest. I also found gaming on the pc to be very lonely and quiet, no-one has a mic.

Consoles are not in-superior, you get what you pay for. You can get an xbox for 150 with all the controllers and everything, you can get a pc of the same price with a keyboard and mouse included (of the same power). You also don't have to pay for assembling it or care about parts. Graphics are not everything anyway, you shallow pathetic nerds.

To all you PC leetists, the consoles ALWAYS have NEW stuff comming out for it. Like Gears 3 on xbox, or uncharted 3 on ps3. I never see any 'fun' games comming for the pc like these games. Get over it, the PC had it's rein, it's over now (as of 2007), let PC gaming rest in pieces.

What's so good about graphics? I'd rather play a bad looking game then most of the good looking pieces of **** on the pc.

Absolutely worth it. Don't believe the Console Troll's. FPS games are better on PC hands down. Consoles are fine for racing games or platformers but a thumstick can't match the speed or accuracy of a mouse.

Your an idiot, PCs get a lot of the same games that come out on consoles. If you have ever played a game with really good graphics, like you can only get on a PC, you would realize that your entire life of console gaming has been a complete waste. PC gaming is not very expensive at all, just upgrade the computer you used to write your stupid reply. Keyboard and mouse gives you 100 times the precession, and completely transforms the gaming experience. RTS games are not boring, have you ever played Star Craft? Its only one of the most popular games ever made, and even an idiot like you would enjoy it if you could figure out how to get your meats around the mouse. PC gaming did not die in 2007, what does that even mean? Considering there are hundreds if not thousands more PC games made every year, including this year, I don't know why you keep saying that? Consoles cannot produce good graphics, and if you have played a computer game in the past 5 years you would realize how cheesy console graphics look. The PS3 even looks like **** and hurts your eyes. Here is a list of boring games for the PC: Dirt 3, Deus Ex, Red Faction, Portal 2, Star Wars the Old Republic, Max Payne 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Prototype 2, Rage, Prey 2, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, FEAR 3, Battlefield 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, SHOGUN 2: TOTAL WAR, Crysis 2, THE WITCHER 2: ASSASSINS OF KINGS, and Dead Space 2. These are only the games that are considered to be the best of the best, and came out this year, or are coming out this year. Soo, does this look like a dead industry to you????? I could keep going on, and on.

How could PC gamers be considered Meat Heads? Especially since we are mostly nerds?? If you find PC gaming lonely, maybe its because you are an antisocial troll weirdo.
