I'm looking for ways to make Boone even tougher (I know he's pretty formidable as he is!) and was wondering whether giving this weapon to Boone would do so? I want him to still be able to shoot down enemies from a distance as efficiently but pack a bigger punch when he does so.

Sure. You can always take it back. I just gave him the unique mini-gun and he mowed 'em down. I took it back though because he's a sniper. He loved the DPS on it and made a frowny face when I took it back.
